Raw Power

3’s day, squats, TM 425.

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x3, 355 x3, 385 x7.

Fr. Squats: 135 x5, 225 x1, 275 x fail.

Notes: All reps until the money set were paused and deloaded on the pins, no belt. I was working on slowing my descent on the money set, but I am still getting pitched forward out of the hole. I could really feel it on reps 3, 5 and 7. I wanted to take rep 7 deep, and I could really feel the bounce and pitch forward.

I am not sure what’s going on with front squat, but I was planning on at least 315 today and maybe taking a crack at 340. But I got wonky and hit the pins and dumped 275 and called it a day.

Side notes: In contrast to the guys at the other gym, the guy squatting next to me was a stud. You can see him at the beginning of the video. He worked his way up to 315 x 6 or 7 for several sets on fronts squats to way below parallel and they looked perfect. I talked to him for a little bit, he said a blown disk caused him to stop heavy back squatting and he now front squats in the 400’s when he goes heavy for singles.

I really wanted to watch your squat video. But I got a message to the effect that I’m not your friend so I can’t. Really?

Fucking youtube. Should be fixed now.

MJ, thanks, I appreciate it. Scott, I don’t hear much of anything when I’m lifting so it does not bother me.

3’s day, Deads, TM 460.

Deads: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x5, 365 x3, 415 x9 (Rep Pr).

GM’s: 45 x10, 95 x5, 135 x5.

Hammy curls: 6 sets of 5.

Notes: My back still felt a little tweaky today, so I quit doing deads after the money set and did some light GMs to get a stretch. I was pretty happy with the number today, all things considered.

Nice pulling. Was that touch and go or were they paused reps? My playback was weird and everything was out of sync.

The only time I do high reps is touch and go. The last time was 225 for 13 and I bounced the shit out of it. Full pause I don’t do more than 3 typically.

Your lifts are looking great and those pulls looked really easy.

I can’t either and judging by the bum out picture on the video, it looks to be a good one

Try this:

It still isn’t working.

I went back and re-read a couple of your stories. Who the hell wraps their knees for sets of 10? That’s crazy. I’d do three at the most and that’s a stretch. My feet are screaming.

I’ve also seen people set the hooks so high they’re doing the tippy toe thing to re-rack. It makes me scared. I’m good setting just north of nipple but will go lower if I have to. Anyone with any experience knows that when you go heavy, the bar can move a bit down your back and you somehow just get shorter. It’d suck to get stuck under the hooks.

I don’t know, the vid is set to public, and it works on my end. Re: the deads, ya, that was touch and go. I have started going touch and go if its more than three reps or so.

I’ll check back later to see if it’s working.

I like touch and go reps. Some people are kind of elitest about paused only but there’s something really satisfying about banging them off the floor. Besides, I figure since I’m a good deadlifter I must be doing something right

Ha! Apparently I am jack’s friend so I can see the video.

I see the pitch forward. Got nothing on the advice front. Whatever you do, try to stay out of Squat Rehab. It sucks in here…

The partial knee bends are priceless. I had a guy ask me to tell him when he hit depth a while ago, again at the commerical gym. He wasn’t very happy with how deep that was:)

Can I please borrow this? I just fell out of my chair laughing my ass off. And just so you know, that is the exact reason I don’t get asked to spot anyone benching at my gym.

I’m Jumpin’ Jack’s friend now too!

Nice squats. I definitely see the pitch forward on the final two reps. But good work, nonetheless!

Great squatting. 385 for 7 is some going! What would you estimate your 1 rep max at now?

Kimba, thanks, of course you are!

Snap, ya, that’s what I was talking about on your log. Thanks, though.

Farmer Brett, I have missed 455 several times in the last 6 or so months, once high and several time I got pinned to the rack when I got pitched forward. My rep/max calculator had been putting me between 460 and 475 recently so I think either 455 will go or this form issue is causing me to leave 20-30 pounds on the table.

Ms. O, if you can get the vid going, could you ask BB to post some pointers? I’d be curious what he thinks.

Great squats and DLs Jack. Really strong!

Hey, LS, thanks for checking in!

Meet prep day, Bench, 5’s day, TM 285.

Bench: 45 x30, 95 x15, 135 x10, 185 x5, 215x5, 240 x 10, 225 x5, 5, 5.

WG Chins: 6, 4, 4, 3, 3.

OHP: 95 x10, 135 x5, 145 x5, 160 x5.

Cable Rows: 5 x 10.

Peck Dec: 3 x10.

Notes: My elbows and shoulders are feeling a little beat up, but bench felt pretty good. My training max is too heavy for OHP doing this every session, so I will likely reset my max after this cycle.

Great videos Jack, awesome lifting!

Deads Day.

45 x 10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x3, 405 x1, 455 x1, 505 x 0, 0.

Notes: I really wanted to pull 505 today, but no go. It broke off the floor–twice–but just barely. 455 was not all that hard, but it was slow. I wanted to run 455 for my opener and then 505 for my second, and then probably pass on my third if I hit it, but I am going to have to rethink it this strategy.

Paul Carter talked about deadlift attempt strategy in his blog today

see the comments.

is a 50 pound jump good with your CNS - i think that much overloads mine at the higher ranges but I’m not at 500 yet and really that’s a 10% jump (ok 11% from 455) so not that bad.
