-defo nogi @dchris - I wouldn’t know what to do in a gi! We had gi as a weekly session at our club but given minimal interest from members the coach switched that session into nogi leg locks.
-Again I was the only one at training this morning. Too cold for most maybe? = private lesson time again
-requested wrestling tips, so worked on collar tie technique. My stance is too shallow also, so getting that back leg back further helped a lot. Then collar tie into guilotine for entry into anaconda. Plenty of discussion too in there.
-so no rolls this week, but that’s fine as next week I’m taking the family to the snow (I haven’t been for 20ish years myself, so happy not to have any sore spots post rolls).
I trained mostly gi before. Always liked nogi, but having a huge mind shift change. I play open guard and look for outside angle, but doesn’t work so well in nogi without grips. Having to consciously think about inside angle for leg entries.
Took the family including junior to the snow for a week.
Totalled 3.5 days in the snow, and was very enjoyable. Been 20years since my last trip. Will be a more regular occurrence given junior enjoyed it.
Averaged 25,000 steps (suspect the fitbit was taking bumps as steps so I’ll take that number with a grain of salt) and somewhere between 15 - 25km’s on the snowboard each day. Snow depth was ok, early in season so only half the lifts and runs were open.
Will get some photo’s up in coming days, but just a few sore spots/muscles, but no injuries to speak of, so that’s a big win for a 47 year old. Long drive though, 8-9 hours oneway so takes a day at each end to get there and back.
Resting HR rose each day, as I was looking to get as many runs in as possible down the slopes.
-Coach has us work on side control to closed guard, then shoulder lock into kimura. Alternative also to transition to triangle. Good training
-3x rolls with the morning crew all back in attendance. Solid vs N, just the one tap vs H, J continues to be a handful and I was gassed early copping a few taps there. Good session though.
That has been a fear of mine for decades… I’m sorry you had to experience that, but it sounds like you escaped without a broken nose with blood everywhere.
