BJJ 1hr, open mat session

-nice open mat session on a monday before xmas. All other sessions cancelled this week over the holiday break, so managed to make this one. Plenty of people i haven’t seen in months, great to see them, and get humbled by them in rolls. All good though, unscathed and more learnings. Got in a number of sweeps on a few opponents, no submissions but held off plenty too. Maybe 7 or so rounds over 90odd minutes of on and off again 5min rounds with various opponents.
-knee bruising still there but seems to be ok, so another week of light duties should mean all ok into the new year.
-there’s a number of suspiciously good looking handles wrapped under the xmas tree here for me. KB’s incoming soon!

-working grips, then moving from in half guard to side control.
-4x rolls, went ok, but gassed early. Having a week off and plenty of xmas food definitely shows! Got to roll with the coach too.

t-ransformation2025 pics taken too - a few sore spots, post massage and cupping a few days ago. So many sore spots…

-working back control techniques, and getting control back again if opponent starts to get free.
-coach was late! so just 2x rolls with J as we were the only 2 in the class today. After numerous taps, I finally got him in N-S around the neck alas timer went off. But good to finally get into an attacking position after defending for much of the rounds.
-next bjj comp I’ve signed up for is in early Feb, fewer divisions so no weight to cut, as the lightest grouping is under 75kg.

-working guard defence today. swivelling using our legs when opponent in north-south. Then when less space using the knees with a transition to armbar/triangle. I kept spinning the wrong way, but go it eventually.
-4x rolls. All on the defence but fairly solid, copping just a few taps each roll. Fought out of a few closed guard holds which I need to work on too. Good session with 5x of us there.

Lower back still angry this morning, no bjj accordingly.

Hit up some stretching, foam roll, lacrosse ball pressure point work around the top of hip bone.

Not sure what angered it but will get some gentle movement in and see how it tracks.

@burien_top_team Not sure mate, I felt fine after doing that daily work of kb’s over the weekend. Maybe it was the nordic leg curls or bulgarians, which result in the hammies/glutes pulling on the lower back? (it feels more like referred pain from elsewhere).

I have a regular scheduled chiro this coming monday (maintenance 6 weekly), and I’ve hit up my masseuse for a massage this weekend. Sitting in the office chair does not help that’s for sure!

-working floating guard transitions today.
-5x rolls. Tough work, many taps, gasses early. But finally got some takedowns and some closed guards later on. But overall that was tough and exhuasting. Good session regardless, with 6x of us there.

Man, mine flares up if I do a hamstring dominant workout and/or end up in knee shield too much. Glad it’s doing better.

BJJ 1hr, beginners class

-made it to an evening beginner class. Worked hand placements and getting into side control. Some new things in there to learn and work on.
-Various rolls against fresh faces and the regulars. Generally held my own but overall nice to not just be on the defence the whole time. Need to get to more of these classes so I can use some offensive skills!
