I think it’s less that the site got nicer and more that it got OLDER. Forum users are an aging breed: all the hip kids are on tiktoks and facetimes. As we get older, we just don’t have the energy for stupid internet arguments.

Although occasionally someone will come alone and bring it all out of us.

I think he’s either a variant of supercar from another dimension

or

supercar died from too much cool whip consumption and got reincarnated into soulman.

I tried to add the “he’s out of line but he’s right” meme but I couldn’t. I guess proving your point.

:rofl::rofl:

This should be saved and pinned as a sticky in this part of the forum.
Titled: How not to interact with people.

It really summed up what the site was

These guys aren’t anomalies, this seems like a pretty common attitude among younger or inexperienced trainees.

I agree, mostly, but I do think 20-year-olds now are different than 20-year-olds then. And I’m positive I’m softer than my father/ grandfather (hell… grandmother).

7 years of experience though!

Or perhaps it was 1 month of experience repeated 364 times.

True, I was a supercar once

It’s interesting that the Darden section features so many people who have been lifting for 40 years but still ask questions and make comments that make them seem to have the understanding of a beginner. Like some sort of arrested development

I got you bro

I’ll post it to my meme thread and credit you

Yup. Definitely the difference between TALKING about training vs training. I’ve seen it with martial arts forums too. Guys who have been “studying martial arts” for 40 years and can’t throw a punch compared to some Thai kid that’s been fighting full contact since they were 8 and at the tender age of 16 has 300 fights under their belt.

I hear you Dave. They are “unlearning to learn” in accordance with Arthur Jones teachings.

Bearing in mind though, that @planethealh not only misspelled his username, but also revolutionized the system by NOT asking questions - ONLY spreading his valuable experience to the masses. I often think about his ideas on Pyramid training when I’m reaching a plateau. Think about it, wouldn’t you want your leg pressed weight increase EVERY workout for the rest of your training career?

This should attract any newbie looking for da gainz!

Hahaha I’m sad that he was banned before I got here, I love reading that guy’s posts.

You, Al, and James Brawn are definitely my favorites from that board because you guys really go out and experiment in the gym to find what works. You’re also probably among the nicest guys. Did Scott get banned? I haven’t seen him ask about how to do a chin up in a while

LOL!

Thanks Dave! I myself have learned and got inspiration from you, as I like your way of continuously questioning and trying things out - being one of the bros here I listen to! You certainly practice what you preach (walk the way you talk)!

Nah, haven’t seen Scott since the Tornado blasted through his garden. Very unfortunate. Scott seem to be quite broad and accomplished, while still keeping a young and hungry perspective on things (chins, I mean).

I appreciate your retelling of this saga. Happened before I came to the site, and when I looked into it the formatting change makes those old threads a bear to read. Seemed like both dudes were pretty solemn about their exits.

I’m not so sure. This is a very small online communities relative to others, so I’m not sure we can attribute it to the general poster getting more mature. I think credit is due to the dozen or so posters such as yourself that set the tone for everyone else. The biggest difference I’ve seen from the most regular posters recently versus the dark times @TrainForPain speaks of, is ego. There isn’t any on these forums for the most part, and I mean that in the best possible way. People giving advice don’t get butthurt when their advice is ignored and they move on. Consistency and results speak for themselves and no one has anything to prove. It’s a mecca for stoicism in weightlifting!

I want to applaud the box you’ve put me in here where, if I argue with you about this, I prove myself wrong that I’m too old to do internet arguments but if I DON’T argue with you about it I prove you right that I don’t get butthurt when my advice/opinion is ignored, haha. But well stated in any capacity.

Reading this thread really made me want to do super squats when I get back home from vacation.

EDIT: I’m already regretting saying that.

SUPER SQUATS - The program everybody knows works, but nobody wants to do! (put that on the book cover)
