Rapid Fat Loss vs. V-Diet

Are you finding soreness to be an issue on such a low calorie program? What about headaches?

I’ve done a number of low calorie, PSMF, and various other diets over the years and the carb cycling just gives me those nasty headaches. And pretty much any diet under about 2k cals pushes me into soreness. Im 225lbs and my maintenance level calories run around 3k, and go a lot higher obviously if I lift that day or not.

Soreness lasts for about 24 hours longer than after a typical workout (when I’m PSMF’ing) so I decrease volume and frequency. I stick to total body workouts, like the RFL diet recommends. Headaches? No…fatigue, yes. Mentally I’m sharp but when I stand up I get very light headed and my legs are very heavy. I’m fully depleted at this point (day 8) and will finish up Friday. I’m going to refeed for both weekend days and aim for 1,200-1,500 g CHO Saturday and Sunday.

I have experienced headaches and some soreness. I attributed this to the endless hours I was playing basketball though. I most likely would have recovered quicker if my calories had been higher and the soreness would have gone away sooner. However, the headaches may have been from the sunlight for me.

Hey, so what? lol.

Its just amusing to me to see everyone’s different interpretation of “fat” or “sloppy” or “let myself go.”

I guess it depends on your body composition how you grew up, or deviations from your normal walking around level of leanness, but in that 211 picture…If I looked like that while gaining, I’d be a happy son of a bitch and I’d never stop gaining.

To each his own, however…cough bastard cough

I bet elusive can throw some mean, Rucker Park elbows.

Gotta use those switch blades when you get inside. lol.

Figured I’d show you how doughy I appear on day 8 of RFL after 3 total body workouts. I’ll put up a post-refeed pic in a week to show the difference. I feel like dog shit btw.

Flexed…lol

Are those pizza coupons on your fridge? lol.

Hang in there, just a few more days of hell.

damn you’re a lean bastard phatkins. I gotta stop visualizing your Cartman avatar.

Yes those coupons belong to my roommates haha…no way I’d be able to use those during my 14 week fat blitz. I started around 200 with 18% BF (skinfold) and the scale says I’m 172 this morning. It hasn’t all been rapid fat loss! That would just be plain insanity.

Some observations on RFL:

  1. I love carbs. Everything about them…taste, mental sharpness, workout energy, better sleep, recovery. I literally had to stop myself from thinking about my refeed this weekend while I was lying in bed last night.

  2. I don’t miss fat. The taste can always be replaced with some chemical substitute or flavoring. I’ll probably stick to egg whites for the rest of my carb cycling before I decide to try and gain mass. Fat free cheese is doable.

  3. I love veggies. They keep me full, are highly nutritious, are essential to any diet, and I will continue eating 1 lb. of broccoli at a time

  4. Very low calorie diets SUCK. Stimulants don’t help much besides mental alertness. Your body takes a lot of time to recover from workouts. DOMS is inevitable even on a 2-3X’s per week schedule. Cardio would be drudgery at this point so I’ve all but wrote it off.

  5. My hunger level is MUCH less on RFL than the V-diet. It might be due to the solid food or free snacks (mostly veggies). The calories are lower, however.

  6. This diet works. The scale, mirror, clothing, and your peers will all lead you to believe you’re really dropping fat FAST. PSMF diets shouldn’t be reserved for Oprah or mega-fatties who are morbidly obese. It’s a great technique for a break period from bulking especially if you’ve put on a bit of fat. Once you’re down a couple % BF you can go right back to building mass.

If my tune has changed in this thread, it’s because I was only speculating about the diet before…and after seeing first hand how effective and “easy” it is compared to the Velocity Diet, I’d most definitely recommend it.

I’m starting soon and I cant wait!

In your initial posts, you said you didnt lose any muscle… how can this be so when his book is further subtitled, “How to lose 4-7 pounds of fat and 10-20 pounds of weight in 2 weeks”

Just wondering, thanks

Once you start eating egg whites and tuna all day everyday I doubt you’ll still have the enthusiasm.

Depending on your size and the amount of muscle mass you carry, alot (most) of the weight you lose will be water and glycogen.

just bought the book and cant wait to start this diet once i come off my current bulking diet.

i’ve gone up from around 10% bf to ~12/13% on bulk, and i hope with this diet I can get to around 8% and see all the hard work i’ve been doing in the gym and the kitchen appear in front of my mirror!

Let the carb loading begin. 170 lbs. this morning for a total weight loss of 7 lbs over 12 days. I’ estimate 3-4 lbs of that is fat. I’ve been drilling diet Dr. Pepper and sugar/carb free Rockstar to keep me alive over the past 3 days of hell. I’m going to switch back to good old carb cycling for a month or so and decide whether I want to endure this torture for one more stint before my 2nd Vegas trip. I’ll post pics after the carb load on Monday.
