Rapid Fat Loss vs. V-Diet

Mom, have two free meals instead of 1 refeed and 1 cheat meal per week.

I was brave and posted a question to Lyle himself!
Bricknyce wrote:
That would be TWENTY-FOUR servings of broccoli per day! Are you going to do that? Even if you did, most of it is from fiber that doesn’t affect blood sugar or contribute to your caloric total.

Fibrous veggies are considered free foods by fitness trainers and dietitians/nutritionists. Starchy veggies (potatoes, corn, peas, beets, carrots) aren’t considered free.

What is the point of paying so much attention to calories on this diet other than to just KNOW them? The aim of this diet is to take in protein from the LEANEST sources, 6 grams of fish oil or 15 grams of flaxseed oil, limitless veggies, and that’s it! The calorie issue takes care of itself.

 1. Set protein intake depending on fatness and activity level.
 2. Limitless veggies.
 3. EFAs.
 4. Set cheat meals and refeeds depending on fatness and activity level.

That’s the diet!
Well I have been eating 400g of brocolli 3-4 times a day now and thats with other carbs sources as well. That is almost 500 cal from brocolli right now. Who knows how much I would eat when calories are low.

You should take stock in broccoli! :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s also spinach, cauli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, etc…you can mix it up…but still 500 cals worth?!!

lol, thanks for the simplicity! :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re welcome, Mom. But I don’t think it will be as beneficial as a refeeed. I’m sure that two refeeds will have a beneficial effect on metabolism and your psychological well-being, but the point of the refeed is to POSSIBLY rebuild muscle lost on the diet, and bring your grhelin, leptin, and insulin levels up to normal speed.

What foods are you carbing up with? You should have mostly “clean” carbs, but if it’s causing that much discomfort and bloating, you can use some more foods that have more carbs with less volume, like pancakes, maple syrup, sweetened cereals, raisins, pretzels, fig newtons, baked potato chips, bagels, and so on. You don’t have to have protein foods during the carb up or at most, only have a small amount (~20 grams at a sitting). That’s what I do. When I tried to carb up on only “clean” carbs like rice, pasta, potatoes, and oatmeal, I had bloating and pain and some other unpleasant things.

And yeah, that’s a lot of broccoli: 20 servings. But it’s still a free food on any diet.

Dude, are you seriously having 20 servings of vegetables per day while on a lifestyle diet? I’d feel darn gross with that plan.

Thanks Brick-

All good ideas, but I am gluten intolerant…I see what you mean though…yep, the bloating and ‘other things,’ SUCK!

Are there any veggies you all try to not eat a lot of, like green beans and onions?

I need help on this diet ive hardly had any weight loss weight and ive been eating under 2k calories a day prolly around 1500-1800 and none i dont get it im still hovering at 210lbs. Any ideas?

OG- are you eating RFL style, but just having a little bit of what you crave every once in awhile?

I decided to scrap the Friday refeeds, cause I JUST. CAN’T. handle that many carbs at once, even by keeping it at the lower range…My tummy hurts and I’m bloated for a couple days after…I’d rather have a few free meals during the week.

Thoughts on that?

:)
I am eating pretty much eating RFL style in the sense that I am avoiding refined carbs. I am keeping protein and fats high and carbs less than 50gs a day.

I think I may take Brick’s advice and have two cheat meals a week because sometimes one a week become pretty much a roman orgy of food.

When did you start and how much protein are you supposed to be eating?

sorry if this gets posted twice, but how long have you been on the diet and how much protein are you supposed to be getting?

I am not on the diet. I said I was eating like the diet. It’s just a reduced calorie anabolic diet. The thing I mostly monitor is my carbs.

sorry, my response was to Optheta, but your post popped up first…I didn’t hit refresh first…plus the site is being funky for me today!

Well, I read you last post and you are suppose to be eating 210 g of protein which is 840 calories. What are you doing?

Well they said on here that its okay to eat more then 840 calories. I get alot of Ground turkey and beef I know those arent the leanest protein sources but im doing the best with what i got. So thats why my calorie intake is bumped up a little more to 1500-1800. I mean im still as much lean protein as i can tuna, egg whites sliced turkey.

@ MominMD - ive been on it for about 4-5 days( i forgot the exact date lol)

It’s not a matter of what’s “OK”. It’s a matter of what you’re assigned to eat for the diet. So what you eat can’t be considered OK or not OK. It’s what is optimal for the diet. I guess it would be OK if taking in more than 840 kcals is what you’re supposed to be eating for the diet.

If you take in fattier sources, you’re not sticking to the diet, despite the fact that 1,500 to 1,800 kcals is pretty darn low. I can’t see how any guy, unless he’s painfully skinny, can’t lose weight on 1,500 to 1,800 kcals, unless he was sticking with that diet with no refeeds or cheat meals for weeks or months on end and overtraining.

Also, bumping 840 kcals to 1,500 to 1,800 is not upping a diet a little. That’s an increase of 178 to 214 PERCENT! You know, over doubling the diet at the higher end!

optheta- did you get the actual ebook, or just trying to go off of what is being talked about here?

Just curious!

If you are doing the diet, then you get your calculated amount of protein(based on body fat and activity level) add in green veggies and fish oil capps, and thats it!

Do you have the book? What they said on here is that you do not really need to count your calories just get the amount of protein grams you need. What you are doing is eating twice what you should be and are most likely eating a lot more fat then you should, lean ground beef usually has about 8 g of fat.

Alright I get it I was half assing the diet, to be fair i skimm read it lol i wanted to get started on it ASAP. I guess I will be more careful this time around.

@ Bricknyce- Yeah i know 15-1800 is low calories and i should at least be losing some fat but i have a really shitty metabolism I mean I Gain weight on my maintenance calorie level of 3k. I guess I will just have to next tiem i go to costco buy just a Shit load of lean meat.

Can I get some of your guys ideas on what to get - Tuna, Eggs, Sliced Turkey, ?!?!
