Rap Music

What exactly IS this “whole wigger thing?” I mean what does that mean anyways? Please define for me how white kids are “supposed” to act, how Hispanic kids are supposed to act, and how black kids are supposed to act.

I didn’t know hip hop CD’s came w/a label stating "Warning: white kids must not act like black gangsters upon hearing this black gangster music;only black kids can act that way and it be socially acceptable.

Please educate me.

If you don’t like rap because of the commercialism and simple desire to get money and bitches - then listen to these two albums, they’ll totally change your outlook on hip-hop (if not, you must be deaf):

GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords
Nas - Illmatic

I could care less how people dress, Wear what you like. It’s just kids dressing up like the celebrities they like. All kids do this no matter what music they listen to.

The only thing I don’t like is when white kids try to “talk black” and change their dialect. My sister used to do this. When she was on the phone, I could actually tell if she talking to a white friend or black friend.

Excellent choices. Most people have heard Illmatic and regard it as one of the best ever, but Liquid Swords is so much lesser known. In my opinion, it’s the best solo Wu Tang album.

Raekwons’: Only built for Cuban Linx is nice as well

Yeah, you need some sort of education, try going back to school - your a moron. WTF are you talking about? Read through what i’ve wrote before answering.

How has no one said Outkast or Biggie? The Roots? N.W.A.? Seriously people. More good stuff: Blackalicious, Aceyalone, Asheru Black and Blue, Rahzel (best beat boxer in the world), Jedi Mind Tricks, Jurassic 5, etc.

To me, dress is pretty much a geographic thing: You live in the city, dress hip (that’s broader than being gangsta), if you’re from the burbs, dress like it. Listen to whatever you want.

I can honestly say that I’ve been in situations where I’ve been expected to listen to rap just because I’m a minority. It’s definitely more of a minority experience, though that doesn’t stop anyone from listening to it. I do know plenty of white people that won’t listen to it just because they can’t relate. At the same time, it seems popular to say you like anything but country, which probably comes from the fact that a lot of kids can’t relate to that lifestyle as a result of vicarious urbanization.

Easily the best solo album. ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers is up there towards the top as well. Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx too.

Hell, almost all Wu-Tang tracks are fuckin awesome!

Again, please educate me because I don’t know what talking “black” is. What’s talking “white” or talking “hispanic?”

I didn’t know words/speech had colors.

Do you mean educated versus slang? Take for example Colin Powell. Does he talk “white” in your mind because he’s well educated?

You’re the moron. First, I’m in college idiot! Second, I’ve read all of your garbage.

It didn’t make any sense the first time or the second. White kids don’t have to act “white” whatever that means. I’m still waiting on your “white/black” definition.

Yes, it’s stupid when ANY kid acts “hard,” or let me clarify what that word means for you since it’s too “street/slang” for you it means somebody is tough or trying to act tough. That is annoying when any young kid acts like that regardless of race. You’re an ignorant fool that believes white kids and black kids have to act a certain way.

How/when/why did you formulate these stereotypical beliefs?

Yeah, that was my point. All the solo Wu Tang albums are great, and Liquid Swords is the best. That just shows how great Liquid Swords is.

Have you checked the billboards lately? Tool is no.1.

You don’t need to give me examples or play this game with me. I’m agreeing with you. Notice I used the word and put “talk black” in quotes. That’s because it’s not a real thing. I also used the word “try,” as in an attempt to do something. In this case it was an attempt to do something not real. But what she did do was change he tone, dialect, and speech patterns when she would talk to her black friends, and it was so fake, so obvious, and so annoying.

Oh, Outkast and Dr. Dre are pretty much the only rap I really like right now. I still listen to MJG and 8Ball, Wyclef, and a few others, but not much else. It seems rap is losing its steam.

I don’t like ANYTHING that comes on TRL or MTV.I think it’s cheesy. I think the “artists” off of MTV have no talent and are just in the business to make money for the record companies.

Actually I think you’d be surprised. A lot of the MTV/TRL bands actually are incredibly talented, they just get pushed into a box so that their record companies can market them a specific way.

The true test of a band is when you see them live, that shows if they actually have talented or if they are just a bunch of overproduced assclowns.[/quote]

They are? Name five please.
I’ve studied music my whole life(music theory,playing and mastering 7 different styles of music,music education,mastering 4 different instruments,and more).
No way can anyone tell me MTV has talented bands-they don’t.
Maybe we need more people who actually play and study music to understand what I’m talking about.
If MVT doesn’t have some cheesy EMO band, like simple plan or fall out boy, then they have some 16 yr old R & B artist who sounds like a girl.
Mtv ISN’T music TV.90% of the crap on MTV today has NOTHING to do with music and when they do have music on,it’s usually cheesy, teen pop untalented B.S.
I don’t agree.Although seeing bands live can be a great experience,it isn’t the main factor. However, when you’ve played your whole life and play their stuff on your instrument and study the theory of their music you’ll know if it’s talent.ANYONE can play a bunch of power chords.

Good God, enough with the semantics already! Most Black people talk that way, and a good portion dress like that, so that’s why the terminology is used. Get over it. People used to tell me I talked “White” all the time, and they were always Black. Yeah, they were ignorant. So what. There is no way any race is “supposed” to act. But if you grew up learning proper English, and speaking that way, then next month you are dressed in clothes two sizes too big with a sideways hat, and saying “Yo-yo,yo, what’s up in dis’ heezy?,” people are going to say you are “acting Black.”

EXACTLY.
MTV just plays bands/artists that fit into a trend.
A metal band I listen to called CoB sold more cd’s than britney spears and nelly, but their music isn’t on mtv.
MTV only plays what THEY WANT.
I must say though,it seems like some good rock bands are making a huge come back and this cheesy pop crap is dying off.

Rap is stupid and it sucks.
What the fuck is it that people like about it? It’s gotten to the point that I turn on the TV here in Ukraine and guess what? Russian rappers with sideways hats and bigass pants. Holy shit.
I hope rap dies like disco.

It’s all the fucking same shit. Some rappy gangster talking about his shit wearing a bazzilion diamonds and holding a fucking grail with more diamonds in it.
What is it that makes these fuckers so insecure that they have to show how fucking rich and succesful they are in every video? Expensive cars and mansions that probably don’t even belong to them.
Women gyrating and acting like hoes everywhere. It’s fucking degrading and stupid.
I guess to answer the question…no I do not like rap.
Whatever happened to jazz? R&B? Blues?
Die rap die.

Oh, I don’t watch nor support MTV. That channel is for the complete mindless. I wish it would just die off. They don’t play music, they play shit. Pure and simple shit. It’s terrible.
