Rap Music Has Gone Down The Drain

Rap used to be real good ,But since about 1996 it has been on a down hill slide until it it is what is today…Yeah there some ok stuff out but nothing like this…

I hate rap to much to watch the videos and see your point

but rap was never good

i think almost all the new pop music that comes out these days is pure crap… oh shit, does that mean i’m getting old?

I like old rap very little new stuff…But this is what gets me in the mood to lift .It ain’t rap…

This is the most intelligent thing you’ve ever said on this board.

I’m in total agreement.

Wow, this is uncanny as I was just thinking this same thing earlier this week!

Couldn’t agree more, fellas…Gone are the good ol’ days of Cube, WuTang, Dre, Cypress Hill, Tribe Called Quest etc etc. I literally want to vomit whenever I hear the new stuff. It all sounds exactly the same and that ain’t a good thing. Everyone bashes on K-Fed (or Fed-Ex) and how bad he sucks (and rightfully so), but I honestly don’t see much of a difference between his stuff and the other “mainstream rap” right now.

This coming from someone with so much to say about the use of the “n word”? You all are making me laugh. Maybe I should go rate some country music while we’re at it. The fact that I don’t listen to much of it at all shouldn’t matter, should it?

The bullshit is getting high in here.

No offense to old school rap at all, since much of it is playing in my car at all times, but Jay Z’s new cd is good. At least 3 tracks on Diddy’s are decent. Ludacris did a good job with his as well and Nas is still a poet. Those who act as if NO rap at all is decent today obviously don’t listen to the genre and are simply repeating what they’ve heard elsewhere.

If you don’t listen to the music, who gives a shit what you think about some rapper from 20 years ago?

What gets played on most radio stations is garbage. That is why I don’t listen to the radio and I doubt I am alone on that. If you are basing your judgement of an entire genre on what gets played on MTV, you are clueless on the subject.

been listening to rap since DOUGE E FRESH and SLICK RICK back in the 80’s…How long have you been listening to country ???

Couple more pulled from my ipod…

Here they come yo, here they come:

Sometimes i rhyme slow sometimes i rhyme quick, i’m sweeter and thicker than a chico stick:

You don’t read well, do you? Considering the HUGE social issues touched on especially in most old school rap (Public Enemy), I could care less how long you claim to have been listening to it. Looking at your other posts, it is clear you don’t actually GET most of it so your opinion on it means shit to me.

Not sure if this was directed 2 me or OP. I didn’t say anything other than post some more links. Although I do think rap was better in the older days, when it wasn’t just all about sex, drugs, and sex, there is some good stuff out there today, no doubt.

I have all of Jay-Z’s stuff, and - i might catch some flack for this, but I have all of Eminem’s stuff, too - think these guys wrote the best stuff in recent times. Then there are other songs that just sound good and have a good beat. But these songs are just cool 2 listen to when they’re popular, but not classics - J-Kwon, 50, Luda, Diddy, etc.

I’m not going to really get into this discussion, because I think the thread loses a lot of credibility because of who started it. I will offer this, though. For those who do not a radio decent hip hop radio station in your area, feel free to check this out:

http://www.wmse.org/schedule.php

Go to Tuesdays at 9:00 pm for the Late Night Hype Show. They have over a year of their shows archived and available to listen to for free. They play mostly underground and old school.

This is a great song to workout to:

Georges St. Pierre came out to this song during one of his earlier fights (before the Penn fight).

You guys need to look deeper. Just because you hear shit on the radio doesn’t mean that it represents the genre.

Think indy. Some great names in the scene are:

Sean Price
C Rayz Walz
Aesop Rock
Wu tang members like GZA still put out some hot tracks. DJ Muggs vs. GZA might ahve been the best album I’ve ever listened to other than Sean P ‘Donkey sean jr.’
MF Doom in all his forms
and most importantly Reef the lost cause = brilliant. check it out.

See the moon, not the finger.

I always thought public enemy sounded like crap…you’ll love this one …with the exception of Bring The Noise .But not the crappy version on Public enemies album the one on Anthrax’s album . I always thought Public Enema sucked as far as their music ,and would have done better if Chuck D just did his speaking for private speaking at black panther meetings .

You opinion = DITTO…

I really don’t listen to rap enough to judge whether or not it’s getting better or worse, and really I don’t think you can really judge music until many years have gone by and the social fads have died away. but when I do listen to it, it’s mostly older stuff. Run DMC is the shit, and I also like Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Tupac, and Coolio.
