Rap Music Has Gone Down The Drain

Rap used to be full of generic beats and samples. The only thing that has changed is now there are different generic beats and different samples.

Today’s MAINSTREAM is nothing but IMMAGE …But most moms I know certainly aren’t bumping rap while driving down the road in their minivan…maybe OutKast’s Hey Know …But probably not…anything off.Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik

Hey Know?? Yeah, I can see you a big fan of rap.[/quote]

I couldn’t quote the exact name of that song just rember them blabbing Hey no ,and fihured it must be the name of the song…But the album sucked ,And like I said I can picture a mom in a minivan listening to it along with ELTON JOHN .But not Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik .

I’ve never listened to rap for any deep educational meaning I have always listened to it for the exact same reason I listen to any other music for the way it sounds ,so if it sounds like $hit then I coin it CRAP.

But for some people they think that you need to be listening to rap for some deep educational experience . I find this funny ,because the target audience of most sucessfull rappers is white suburbia . And the target audience that is buying it is not listening to the sound of the album ,But just the lyrics ,So if it sounds “GANGSTA” kids age 13-18 buy it up pretending to be what they hear in the lyrics never listening to the music just the EXAGGERATED lyrics used to target the KIDS from the BURBS who dream of the HOOD life .

Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik

Who the fuck cares?

A lot of the music played on the radio is crap to begin with, whether its rap or not.

Your opinion on the production of rap music is going to be based on what you think of rap music anyway. If you dont like rap, then you’ll say its bad. If you do, then you’ll say its good.

If you enjoy rap music then you’ll realize theres shitty rap music and good rap music.

I agree. The mainstream guys are good, but just get overplayed so quickly. Note that I don’t include Chamillionare in anything related to music.

JayZ is one of the best ever, obviously Nas as you mentioned and there might not be a rapper in history as diverse an Eminem. This doesn’t even mention the underground guys- a lot of people know them, but Cunninlynguists are pretty sick and I’ve never heard them on the radio.

Still though, nothing will ever beat the RZA, the GZA, Old Dirty Bastard, Inspecta Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killa and…

Rap used to be real good ,But since about 1996 it has been on a down hill slide until it it is what is today…Yeah there some ok stuff out but nothing like this…

Do you even listen to the words that are being said in rap music? Do you think they are lying about their up bringing, experiences and culture? Do you remember the stupid shit you say on other threads?

Why would you bring up rap music? To prove that you aren’t ignorant about other cultures?

The same thing rappers proclaim in their words is exactly what you claim to hate!

To claim you appreciate rap music in one breath, but disrespect the culture that it comes from in another is hypocritical.

You are a hypocrite.

Most of rap I listened to spoke of growing up poor ,And because I lived in N.Y. and listened mostly East Coast rap the area spoken of was NYC …Well I hat to tell You I grew just as poor as any Black from the Bronx ,and when we moved up state when I was 13 we lived in a poor section of town,And went to school with kids from rich housing developments …Guess what genius white people with $$$ discriminate against poor white people ,So like I said Blacks do NOT have the market on hard times an discrimination cornered . Every time I make this general statement you call me a racist because I don’t say poor blacks they are the only ones living on the face of the earth to have ever been disriminated against or experienced hard times …Get the F$CK over yourself .

Was this another witty reply? You should really let people know when you try to be funny. Otherwise, we won’t know when to laugh.

What did you make this thread for? Anyone following your posts just over the last couple of days knows you’re a fraud, especially on anything concerning the topic being discussed here. Do you think you are funny?

Saw him live, he’s the shit.

Haha you know motherfuckers are underground when they’re selling their own cd’s outside of the concert!

Every genre sucks if you listen to the radio

Wow I must say that the rap of today is not even close to that of the early 90’s. I never thought that I would see someone post about and recommend Spearhead. I really liked their first two albums and seen them live one time in 1994.

Other atrists that I enjoy listening to are:
KRS-ONE
Ras Kass
Chino XL
Redman (earlier stuff)
Pharcyde
Rakim
Dr. Dre
Ice Cube
Cypress Hill
Craig Mack
Notorious BIG
AMG
DJ Quik
Hi C
Naughty by Nature
Onyx
Pete rock and CL Smooth
Digable Planets
Big L
AZ
De La Soul

There are many others that I love to listen to, however some of these artists do make music today not all still make the same quality as back in the early 90’s

How exactly am I fraudulent I’m not claiming to listen to rap for any educational purpouse infact I have said if it sounds like CRAP I want nothing to do with it…for eaxpmle anything that PE came out with in the late 80’s early 90’s ,as the music sucked ,and the only way you could get into it is if you were listening to it for a message …I have already stated I don’t listen to music for educational purpouse or for political messages …

So please Back your statements up instead of just blowing hot air ,as to how i’m fraudulent ,as I’ve made no claims to listen to any rap music for any political conten infact I’ve stated just the opposite . Stage is yours make .

Oh, so you just aren’t very bright. It had to be one of the two. What, may I ask, do we call the man who avoids listening to socio-political speech of a group of people but then turns around and tells that same group what they have experienced and how they should feel about subjects? I really want to know so that I don’t throw any wrong labels your way. Uh, the “stage is yours make”…whatever that means.

I think 2006 has been a good year as far as rap, I like a lot of the stuff they’ve put out.

Anyone who’s followed Lil Wayne for some years notices that his improvement is just crazy, I now consider him the best rapper alive. He even murdered Jay on his own shit…
The new Young Money mixtape is just outstanding, there are so many witty lines in there that it’s just sick.
And that’s one criterion I use for judging rap, coming up with clever lines.

Chamillionaire got some flack, but he’s actually quite good… his first commercial album was not as good lyric wise as some of his older stuff, I dont know what happened to him…

I really like the scene down in Texas, and ATL as well, pretty much all southern rap, even the old Fat Pat, Lil Keke, UGK etc. material

I get the impression that you didn’t like rap music then or now. So how has rap gone downhill? It seems to me that you’re just spouting off that you just don’t like rap music. So what?

You’re problems seems to be

  1. how “white youth” act out the various gangsta images spouted by the artists; and
  2. The racism every black man has in his collective heart

It sounds to me that you’re just an angry white man falling for the scam that he’s being held down by the brotha. Get over your hate. When has a rapper taken food off your table?

Mainstream rap has never appealed to me. But stuff like Psycho Realm’s War Story albums and Jedi Mind Tricks’ ‘Violent by Design’ have redeemed rap in my eyes.

Maybe there is some good rap out there but the stuff that gets marketed to 12 yr olds sucks. I’m sure the kids that drove down my street a few nights ago and shot up someone’s parked car were listening to it. Once I hear boasts about how tough someone is, the words bitch and ho (is that how it’s spelled?), references to pimping and dealing and shooting, I figure it’s not made for adults. I just need to look out of my window to see the unromanticized version of that world.

to echo what some others have said, most anything on Def Jux is fire. El-P, Mr Lif, Cannibal Ox, C Rayz, etc. If you are a true fan of real hip hop, you owe it to yourself to pick up “the cold vein” by Cannibal ox. Then just take it from there.

Whoa, it’s getting heated in here.

This track comes from their masterpiece album The Infamous (1995)

The video doesn’t do the song much justice, but listen to the track alone. Tight track.

Check it out!
