…and fighting Brock Lesnar in November, supposedly. They are announcing it today at a press conference. Whoever has been advising Randy over the past year needs his ass kicked. 1 year with no fighting, and if he thought Zuffa didn’t have the legal cojones to put together air tight contracts he was sadly mistaken.
I don’t see why this is necessarily a bad thing.
As I understand the contract will stipulate that if Randy can beat Brock UFC will engage in a joint promotion with M-1 to have him fight Fedor next year. So he gets exactly what he wanted…assuming he beats Brock.
Thank god his acting career is over…
Fedor isn’t owned by M-1, he’s owned by Affliction now. I have no idea how that contract works, and at this point there has been absolutely no headway or sign of the UFC relenting to Fedor’s management teams demands, and if they have Randy locked back under a new contract I see no incentive for them to do so.
I think it’s a good thing in that we have Randy fighting again, but a terrible thing in that he isn’t getting any younger and we are now back to square 1 with Fedor in a different promotion (his reason for leaving was because they didn’t sign Fedor). It was an 11 month walk in a big circle back to where we were when this all started.
No, M-1 still owns Fedor. Affliction had to deal with them in order to get him to fight at their show.
Similarly, if Randy’s contract stipulates that UFC must promote the Fedor fight if he beats Brock, then like I said; where’s the bad? It would’ve been nice to have another organization promote it just to keep competition strong but the fight will likely happen now.

Just what I was thinking. Each time I pass that Scorpion King 2 movie at the rental place I say to my gf, “I’m so glad that guy threw away his successful fighting career and is fucking up his legacy for a sequel to a spin off of a sequel.”
Wow. I guess we’ll see how good Brock really is.
Well he DID apparently get his old contract with the UFC torn up and thrown out and signed a new deal with them. This deal undoubtedly pays him a lot more, in addition to possibly getting the Fedor fight to happen for him. So I wouldn’t say he gained nothing from it . . . .
It will be interesting to see how he handles Brock, just due to the size/strength/weight differential. Randy is obviously much more skilled overall and experienced, but Brock is just so . . . giant.

What a crazy circle-jerk this turned out to be.
Why Randy didn’t just finish out the 2 remaining fights on his deal at the beginning of the year is beyond me. It’s not like he wouldn’t have gotten paid for those fights.
They sure aren’t taking it easy on Lesnar. He’s a genetic freak but I don’t see him being able to keep up with Couture, even if Randy has been MIA for over a year.
But, from a business standpoint this fight makes a ton of sense and should draw a huge buyrate.

No, M-1 Global released Fedor many months ago due to difficulties in dealing with Finkelstein. Here is the M-1 press release:
Fedor’s manager’s company is called M-1, and they are who represents him (and they also hold fight cards) so I think we are thinking of different things. He is still part of that M-1.
We have no idea what Randy’s contract says, but I gaurantee that Zuffa is not making contracts that cause them to guarantee fights happening with people that aren’t even in their promotion. That’s common sense.
The UFC is turning into the WWE. I half expect Nog to do a run in and hit both Brock and Randy with a steel chair, which will result in a 3-way title match at UFC 100.
It will be interesting. A 45 year old legend in the game, or the huge inexperienced in MMA Lesner. Seems a lot like the Kimbo v.s Shamrock going on over at Elite XC eh?
Two 40+ year old legends in the fight game versus both organizations least experienced fighters and their biggest drawing fighters. (Lesner is not the biggest draw in the UFC… yet). The old legends will both be fighting men with less expereince and skill than them, but they will be significantly smaller than their opposition. It will be interesting to see what happens.
If Shamrock loses, he will be laughed at, and Kimbo will become even more hyped up if that is possible. If Shamrock wins, he will keep surviving off that one win and I can see him wanting to fight until he is 50, the Gordie Howe of MMA.
Couture loses, no biggie, he is still a legend and will probably fight Fedor anyways, and maybe for the title after that. Lesner wins and he will get a title shot. It will be some hopefully great fights anyways

Mmmmm, I dont knwo that I agree that that would’ve been the best solution. You’re talking about 2 fights, along with 2 training camps, two opportunities to be injured, two recovery periods after those fights, two opportunities to lose -
whether legitimately, or by a fluke shot
- and thereby ruin the superfight potential of Randy vs Fedor, or at least take a little of the shine off of it … and all for a company whom you feel does not respect you. To me that’s asking a lot.

Well that’s what the rumours are. That UFC would be willing to suspend their regular policy and make his second fight the fight with Fedor. Again, assuming he beats Brock.

Don’t forget, he would have been off for at least 6 months with a broken arm after the last fight, so he’s really only behind 3-4 months.
I’m not holding my breath for a Fedor match up anymore, but hopefully Randy picked up some more cash.

I agree, but he’s going to have to now fight someone before fighting Fedor (if that ever happens) so delaying that by a year only increases the chance of something bad happening.
Really all this boils down to is Dana White’s stubborness in not signing Fedor in the first place.
Call me crazy, but I see this as a fight Brock could possibly win. Randy usually outworks guys and I don’t see that happening against Brock.
Neither guy really seems to have a one-punch knockout so unless Randy is able to put Brock on his back (which is quite possible) and ground and pound him out, Brock has a shot here.
Disclaimer: I’m not a Brock nut hugger, it’s just the styles match up that I’m having difficulty seeing Randy’s advantage…other than his vast experience, which counts for a lot.

I’d be willing to bet that the first punch that Brock threw at Herring, the one that shattered herring’s orbital would’ve KO’d most guys
I can’t believe I’m even entertaining the thought of Brock beating Randy, but as you say, in terms of styles, this could be a great matchup for brock. Randy stood and banged with Gonzaga, so maybe he could do the same here. Or maybe not, we really dont know. On the other hand, is Randy’s BJJ game enough to give Brock trouble? I dont know much about Randy’s bjj, but we know even less about brock’s CURRENT bjj defense … 7 months ago it was less than basic, where is it now? I will say this, I dont see either one being able to make this into a GnP/LnP special. If one of them wants to get up, he’s going to get up. My 2 cents.
I wonder how the title works with this whole business though. Randy is still technically the champ as UFC have yet to strip him.
This whole upcoming season of TUF is for Nog and Mir to face for the title. Is there any point in having an interim champion anymore?
And will Brock be getting a title shot if in fact Randy is still the champ? That’d be a load of bs. Fifty-fifty ad you get a shot? One win? It’s not like when A.Silva beat the fuck out of Leben prior to his shot either.
