Are they serious? What does it say about the lack of Hollywood “Action” stars when we’re still relying on Sly and Bruce Willis?
Yeah it’s going to be a superviolent shlock, but it’s still going to be better than any of the girly men that are supposed to be the next crop of action heroes these days. Sorry, but a 60 year old Stallone is still more of a badass than pussies like Tobey Maguire, Shia Lebeouf, Timothy Olyphant (Hitman), Matthew McConaughey and the other forgettables out there.
Except for Olyphant (he was pretty bad ass in deadwood) I’d agree with gates.
How the hell can Rambo go to Burma? He still needs to go back and clean up the mess he made in Afghanistan helping bin Laden.
Stallone’s behind all of Rambo 4 this time too. He’s written, directing, starring and producing this one. Could be awful, but it will still be better than having to sit through another James Franco or Colin Farrel piece of shit.

I think it will be great. He did everything for Rocky and won an Oscar. The man is a great filmmaker. I think most of his crappy movies were written and directed by others with him just acting.
I expect tremendous action and a pretty decent story.

Agreed. Stallone is the man.
I thought Rocky Balboa was great. I can’t wait to see this.
Rocky Balboa is only 2nd to the original rocky in my book so yea I will go see another Rambo.
Sly may be 62, but he looks better than most 50 year olds. He can still pull off the badass roles even at his advanced age.
Stallone is awesome. I have the Rocky and Rambo anthologies on DVD.
I’m definitely seeing this in theaters.
The problem is that the “action star” has passed on. Movie stars today want to be well rounded to avoid being type cast. You could say Stallone and Arnold tried to do the same with movies like “Oscar” and “Jingle all the Way”, but in their cases non-action films were just big flops that got swept under the rug.
On a side note Stallone and Willis look a lot meaner in there 50s and 60s than in their 30s. Watch the first and last rocky films, and the first and last Die Hard films. Then come back and say they aren’t more imposing in their later years.
Stars like Christian Bale can star in movies like “Newsies”, turn out great performances in “Batman” and “3:10 to Yuma”, then switch gears to do voice work in anime (Howl’s Moving Castle). No doubt the guy is wicked talented.
I think guys like Matthew McConaughey and Tom Jane also have the talent and physcal presence to pull off these switches as well. They can put on enough mass to pull off the tough guy routine and still be able to cut back to fullfill other rolls.
I fully agree with the rest of you that somebody with thick body like Stan McQuay needs to step up and fill the roll of the larger than life bad ass. Conan, Beowulf, Thor, Colossus all need someone with some serious mass. Muscle suits and CGI aren’t going to cut it forever.
judging by the preview which involved stallone punch someone’s head off with a knife and shooting someone from so close up they exploded it’s going to be awesome. I intend to go get steaks with my friends beforehand and then see it.
edit: bruce willis was pretty badass in die hard 4. Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors, if you haven’t seen it “Rescue Dawn” just came out and it was fantastic.
Hollywood needs pure action stars like Sly, Arnold, Bruce Lee and Bruce Willis. More well rounded actors like Christian Bale just can’t compare. There’s just something special about being known for kicking ass.
Of course, a real action star must know how to act, at least enough to give their characters some depth. I’d rather watch Batman Begins or Spiderman than any one-dimensional Jean Claude Van Damme movie for this reason.
guys dont forget about clint eastwood, he wasn’t that jacked but he just spewed T wherever he went.
who is going to carry the torch for badass T guys in movies? my list
Gerard Butler?
Christian Bale?
… i dunno who else
on a side note, they should make another punisher movie, rated R, with TONS of mad gunfights and violence and the lead has to be like 6"2 225lbs ripped with a big scar and stubble and alway smoking cigars

Russel Crowe is more than capable of playing a total badass. He’s quite capable of playing just about anything though, just like Bale.
I’d like to add in Hugh Jackman to the list of potential bad asses. Yeah yeah I know, he won a Tony for his Broadway performances, and he has done a few chick flicks, but the guy’s an amazing actor (watch him in “The Fountain”) and he can be a bad ass from time to time (X Men 1 and 2 he was gold, X3 just blew all together).
Why would we have to typecast anyone? Perhaps it’s the movies themselves. Harrison Ford is by no means a bad ass, but the Indiana Jones series were great action/adventure flicks…Is it really down to Angelina Jolie?

Oh you mean the most overrated actress since Julia Roberts? Her films are suckworthy pieces of shit too!
Clive Owen can be pretty mean looking too. He’ll be a mean looking son of a bitch in 15 years. Christian Bale will be a mean looking dude in 20 years too.
