I’ve been listening to Bob Marley for years. Recently I’ve been listening to Damian Marley, as well as this band that came as sample music on my ipod- Habib Koite and bamada.
Does anyone have suggestions as to other raggae music one might like?

There’s a lot of good reggae out there, but if you really like Habib Koite and West African music, check out these guys and gals:
Toumani Diabate
Vieux Farka Toure (one of my favourites)
Bassekou Kouyate
Salif Keita
Issa Bagayogo
Sali Sidibe
I’m sure there’s a misspelling in there somewhere, but I really like the beat and rhythms of West African music, and the unique sounds of their instruments. Maybe you’ll have better luck in finding their CD’s in Thailand.
Raggae? Reggae?
After someone says they wanna go beyond Bob, I usually suggest Peter Tosh. Not as popular as Marley, but easily his most important contemporary.
Hippies. Damn dirty kitten hating hippies.
Reggae? is what I get high too. By the way anyone have some marshmallows and peanut butter at home?
STEEL PULSE!!!
Best reggae band ever! I hope they tour the states again soon.
Definitely Ziggy Marley… a few off the top of my head from him I enjoy are…
Love is my religion
true to myself
Damien Marley’s the shit
There’s loads of good reggae out there! ![]()
If you like Bob Marley you’ll love these:
Burning Spear
Gregory Isaacs
Aswad - the early albums are the best
Steel Pulse - the early albums, once again
Sugar Minott
Toots and the Maytalls
Lee “Scratch” Perry
I personally find the Marley kids a bit too poppy for my liking, but his wife Rita Marley’s albums stay true to the traditional reggae sound.

Sweet guys, thanks.
Watch out for the similarities in reggae and SKA. They are different.
UB40 is a ska band. Also, Toots and the Maytals can arguably be categorized as ska, as well. Similar but not the same.
Look up Israel Vibration, too.
http://users.bigpond.net.au/lvisser/skahistory.html great write up.
Gotta love that West African music.
