Radical positions

Had a friend whose wife shunned my family because she came to my kids Bday and saw my son calling my wife’s gay friend, “Uncle-Andy”. She posts off the deep end MAGA rants on social media regularly.

My BIL/SIL have issues with their Florida family. Back in 2021 they had a baby and the family wanted to fly out to see the newborn but refused to get vaccinated for COVID, or test once they arrived (for purely political reasons), so the Florida family was disinvited.

My wife had a pregnant coworker who got mad at me for asking if they knew whether it was a boy or girl… Because she was going to let them decide and I should be ashamed for putting societal pressure on the gender.

My general rule is I try to be nice to everyone. If you want to be loud and proud all the time about your controversial sociopolitical takes, then I’m probably going to find you annoying at best, and cut you off at worst.

This all sounds like made up bullshit.

Do you mean many people on the internet are generally more poorly mannered than in person?

A certain strain of leftists are that. There are also the ones like my friend who are liberal in their attitudes and ideas, but are unassuming and live lives we would generally consider conservative. They’re not involved in any sort of movements, don’t live alternative lifestyles, do not read from any left-wing intellectuals, and so on, but have ideas for which I believe they haven’t, don’t want to, or can’t ponder negative consequences.

Did you chatGPT “cynical grumpy response” for that post. That’s what it reads like.

No. It was “fake interactions trolls post in internet forums.”

My father grew up in South Africa. Some of his teachers would beat the ever loving shit out of the students.

From what he’s told me, it didn’t increase discipline. In one instance my father got kicked out of class because this washed up female teacher didn’t like him so she took him to the front of the class and started smacking him very hard and repeatedly with a metal ruler. At this point in time my father was around 16 so he glared at her, grabbed her arm, snatched the ruler out of her hand and threw it. He was never allowed back in that class again.

I know you aren’t advocating for the kind of corporal punishment I’m talking about here, where the teachers according to my father regularly abused their power and would try to inflict as much harm as possible, maximising pain leaving students with bloody welts, bruises or even lacerations.

South Africa is South Africa

I’ve known several South Africans who decided America was a lot better and moved here. Super polite for the most part and great to work along side of. It is particularly hard to make fun of a South African accent compared to, say, a Canadian or Australian or Mexican or Chinese accent. South African English is such an odd mixture of ingredients.

South Africa used to have a nuclear arsenal, and I’m glad they no longer do.

My most radical views

  • No one deserves to get raped… but women who are literally walking around naked with zero self awareness and go to bars, clubs etc and get blind drunk only to complain when men hit on them who don’t pass the litmus test of being attractive enough are enticing predators to strike

  • We don’t live in a patriarchal society and haven’t for decades. If anything some policies put in place today blatantly favor women esp affirmative action/gender related relaxation of norms for hiring in physical jobs

If anything we are heading towards matriarchy…

  • Divorce courts/family court favours women even when the woman is unfit to be a mother and the kids would be better off with the dad
  • Everyone should sign a prenup when marriage is on the cards
  • Domestic violence against guys is heinously under reported and isn’t taken seriously
  • Israel is held to a double standard, there is no genocide unfolding in Gaza and they should double down to eradicate Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah no matter how long it takes. The USA should team up with Israel to overthrow Iran’s government that recently made it legal for 9 y/o women to get married
  • Radical Islam represents an existential threat to the Western world, moreso than mainstream political extremes… although liberals nowadays have formed an unholy alliance Islamists e.g. people who want them dead. My cousin who is a pansexual they/them is so invested in the Palestinian issue and I’ve tried explaining to her that if she so much as stepped foot in Gaza/West Bank she wouldn’t live to see another day
  • America’s motion picture association film rating system (for classifying films) needs a very dramatic overhaul, as the guidelines do not reflect the views of the average American. The fact you need to be 17 to go see a film that uses the word “fuck” more than once is absolutely absurd
  • The crackdown on the opiate epidemic has left many with legitimate, severe and intractible pain suffering for no good reason and many have turned to the street as they otherwise have to live in 10/10 pain. Far too many suicides are now related to uncontrolled chronic pain

The DEA/equivalent in Australia has gone way too far on this one and has painted law abaiding patients as addicts because they require controlled substances to work, have a social life, play with their kids etc. It’s gotten so bad doctors even gave my mother a hard time about pain medication… she has fucking cancer. I’ve also been affected by this, I have a genetic disease and have had over a dozen surgical procedures to correct damage. I was also exposed to egregious malpractice and now have failing hardware inside of my body causing round the clock, severe pain. I shouldn’t be thought of in the same light as heroin/fentanyl addicts given I have no history of abuse. I do take pain medication, and good god am I treated like shit by some doctors and family because of it

Go after the dealers, distributers and try get addicts under control by any means necessary. But a stable dose without dose escalations, with strict monitoring, drug testing, maybe pill counts etc and 99%+ of the time if the patient is carefully selected it’s fine. Sure you create a dependency but it’s not hard to get off these meds, I’ve gone off them cold turkey multiple times… Just a week of feeling uncomfortable and back to normal, it’s not the same as an addict going off of 100-1000x the dose what I take

  • Reverse racism is becoming an issue
  • Dating/sex has become exponentially harder for the average man, but not the average woman. Stats indicate a sizable portion of men aged 20-39 are no longer looking for a partner.
  • Some people are not fit to reproduce. Those who carry genes for genetic disease, have rampant history of serious mental illness, probably shoudn’t reproduce

My family is South African, as such my accent is an odd mix of South African, Australian and American (lived in USA for 7 yrs)

South Africa as a country now? Totally fucked… even back then it wasn’t a good place to live

My parents left as they wanted a better life for their future children… and a safer life for themselves. Put a bunch of South African’s in a room and every one will either have been a victim of violence themselves or they’ll know someone who has been victim

Many of my South African family members have been held at gunpoint at least once… and with apartheid and whatnot, the opposite is now occuring, a sort of reverse racism. Reverse racism is just racism… you can be racist to whites… you see it in the media nowdays often

I hate it when I watch woke movies and characteres say shit like “fucking white people” or they start piling on white people, I just think “imagine if this were any other race they were making fun of”

Reminds me of 6 months ago, I went bowling with my brother and a my brother wears a kippah as he is religious. Bunch of muslim kids start shouting racial epithets at us, they wait outside to “stomp our heads in” because Israel I guess

manager of the place warns us, calls cops, they’re arrested… but we don’t get an opportunity to press charges for attempted hate crime

Now imagine if we had been gay, or black, indigenous, muslim, trans etc. Jews are thought of as successsful therefore antisemitism isn’t considered to be persuasive despite after the largest terrorist attack and singular attack on jews in recorded history since the holocaust with a per capita scale being akin to TWELVE 9/11’s all at once the repsonse by the world was a 7-800% increase in antisemitic attacks against Jews

my brother has been nearly beaten up twice in the past year because he is visibly Jewish.

Jews have always been treated badly, and when we adapt by getting involved in say hollywood and make it big because persecution led to jews not being able to work normal jobs the conspiracy theorists come out and say “Jews run the media! Jews run hollywood! Jews are bad!”

But white people being shat on is a fairly new phenomenon. An irritating one as you’d think we would learn from the past and note no racial discrimination is good.

My Polish relatives would disagree with you on that one.

Short answer is yes. I’ve got a family member who is diametrically opposed politically to my wife and I. They were unable to separate those differences from our familial relationship and eventually got verbally abusive and made a threat of violence. We had to cut off all contact with this family member.

I’m fairly conservative (Texan). Voted Trump twice. Will do so again. My sister-in-law and her wife (from New York) are both queer or something. My SIL makes ads for political candidates including Beto O’Rourke and other liberal scum. Her wife does tons of work for the Democratic party and various unions. We couldn’t be farther apart on the political spectrum. I love them very much and we have fairly civil conversations about politics over bottles of bourbon. They are actually coming in to visit for a week this Friday. The last time we talked, Kamala was clearly ahead. I’m curious how their mood has changed recently.

That is unfortunate. Thankfully my close friend and I have not let out opposed views get in the way of our friendship. I love him like a brother and I’d be devastated if politics and social issues had us ending our friendship.

I’ve also had conservative friends I’ve clashed with on some topics come around to realizing what I’ve said.

I understand, considering what I’ve written. I have family members who consider themselves conservative, but are voting for Kamala to spite Trump.

Elaborate? Are you talking about how the Nazis considered Poles to be racially inferior?

In 1939 the Nazis launched a terror campaign against Polish society to destroy polish culture. They orchestrated mass killings of priests, teachers, Polish intellectuals etc killing many thousands.

My best friends grandmother actually survived being in a death camp! One of the extermination camps, not just a concentration camp. She escaped during a death march, where she many, many people died during that march

My fathers best friends grandmother survived something similar (was in an extermination camp, her mother, father and most siblings didn’t make it). She escaped somehow with one sibing, they lived in the woods eating rats/whatever they could find. Also traumatised.

My best friends grandmother is now dead, but my fathers friends mother is still alive. She won’t talk about it anymore though… Surprisingly she has kept the number tattoo… She can’t be in proximity of a German Shepard (triggers a PTSD type of response).

She ran into the woods, somehow got away and was taken in and hidden by a German family.

Well there was that, and they killed millions of Poles, not thousands. They also allied with the Soviets who invaded Poland from the East in conjunction with the Nazis.

The Soviets invaded Poland again on their way to Berlin, establishing decades of shitty government at gun point.

That’s just the lat 85 years.

Holy shit, you are right. They killed almost 2 million non-jewish polish civillians, and Poland wasn’t even part of the USSR (nazis killed a lot of soviet civillians and POW’s)

Nazis invade Poland in 1939, then turned on the soviets they’d allied with in 1941 and went on to kill large numbers of soviets.

Remember that next time you read some Eurotrash neo-Marxist bloviating about how Poland suffers from right wing extremism in 2024.

Those seem to be the magic words for the last few years to flick the switch that turns the “Celebrate Diversity” crowd into “Or Else!” mode.

Honestly, Its fucking weird man. Like a bunch of 20something fucking manchurian candidates walking around thinking they’re on the right side of history so solidly that they don’t realize they’re re-creating it.

Its like once a group of people is Identified, they are then made a target by assigning them as “right wing extremists”, and the freakin manbuns and Velma haircuts all pop off and out comes the Wehrmacht and the Totenkopfs.

Hey, so I’m NOT the only person who has watched this bizarre phenomenon explode over the past decade or so? And how you put it is exactly how I frame it in my head “what if people in the movies, on TV, in public said fucking black people or whatever?” People would freak out and there’d be round the clock media coverage, news articles, etc. about racism and people would lose their jobs/be cancelled immediately. But that also is because ONLY white people these days are racist, any other race is incapable of being racist [sarcasm]

What kind of message does DEI/Affirmative action send our children & how does an adult explain this without essentially explaining racial preference? Does a white parent tell their child “well, we did some bad things in the past so now we have to give special consideration to everyone but us. Sorry, there are no groups, programs, etc. just for you being white, and if you ever complain about it or just point it out, well son, then you will be labeled a racist for even daring to show any outward pride in your cultural heritage” When you look at it like that, it seems pretty fucked up doesn’t it? It’s a vicious cycle, as that same child may then grow up to feel resentful that he/she had no special programs they could take advantage of, and then it’s a wonder why there is this big divide among people. As an 80s child, we were always taught the MLK jr. saying “judge not on the color of a person’s skin but rather on the content of their character”…sadly these days that has morphed into every decision being made solely based upon what color a person’s skin is. Racist policies/behaviors are being perpetuated under the guise of “diversity & inclusion” and its ramifications are NOT making people get along better it seems.
