Re Professional Sport vs “Amateur” sport: At the highest level of either sport there is no differentiation in ability/ skills or dedication - altho sport-specific specialisation certainly.
The size of your paycheck and the tag of “professional” doesn’t make you any more gited - I imagine that is a genetic predisposition thing on both a physical and mental level.
You also have to be in the right place at the right time; you might be a fantastic type of X, but if they don’t need X it doesn’t matter how good you are.
