Quitting the Dip

Gave it up for “H”

Some people compare nicotine to drugs…

Um, what would nicotine be if not a drug?

Technically a poison.

The dose makes the poison

So it is a poison.

I ordered a sampler of those “grinder” coffee dip things from Amazon. They are not too bad and I’ve been going to them after meals and when I’m running around doing errands and what not.

The flavors are OK, and it tastes like they soak coffee grinds in some syrup. If you put them directly on your tongue, it’s a bit much but in the lip its perfect. They look like almost a mirror image of the snus packets.

Overall, I’d give them a couple thumbs up to help with the psychological addiction and the urge to put in a dip without any nicotine.

Actually almost started this exact same thread yesterday. Been dipping for about 6 years. Longest I ever quit was for 2 months, one of which I was abroad in China so didn’t really have a choice. Showering is the hardest part for me. I always throw in a lip when i shower. It has just become like a ritual habit at this point.

Let me know what you find useful. I shall be trying to quit right along side you.
What were you up to in China? Been there a couple of times myself.
I was studying abroad. It was an interesting experience.

No.
The question is posed either as “is it safe?” or “is it unsafe?” The evidence is that is it is unsafe and that there is no low level of use which is proven safe.
Thanks for breaking that down.

@theuofh I am going to check those grinds things out.

I have chewed every now and then for a couple months, then quit for months/years. The two big differences that keep me from it now are :

 1. It noticeable fubars both my sleep and recovery abilities for weight training. BADLY
 2. Inflammation & bleed on gums - not good the teh heart muscle either

But boy, do I miss the taste.

Dont worry he is a skeptic.

My medical opinion is if you are going through more than one can a day then yes you greatly increasing your risk for mouth, throat and tongue cancer.

Really Testy (I almost used your real name :stuck_out_tongue: )

Are you in a contrary mode this week or what?
Oh. I am the contrary one.
Now, do you know that there is a “safe” dose of snuff–a threshhold effect?
The data can be interpreted otherwise.
He was calling me contrary. You he was calling a skeptic.
Correct.

Enough to have prevented head and neck cancer…so far.
Just a question, when you are in the position you are in, dont you think you become very myopic? After 14 years of working ER everyone I saw was either a crack addict or was going to stab you.
My position is hardly enviable. And myopic? No. Astigmatic, probably.

So in your personal life do you come off as an asshole? I’m really not attacking I am just curious. I find sometimes people’s profession end up taking over their personal life. You spend your career questioning and being the one to always play the “devils advocate” does that spill over into your interactions at a dinner party?

Do you become the guy that just argues all night cause you just dont know any other way to be any more?
Would an asshole tell you the truth about himself?
I am not argumentative and personally aggressive, although it may seem that way in writing. So, no, I am not a “devil’s advocate” for the sake of arguing unproductively.
There is a skill I strive to acquire which I would impart to others: how to disagree without being disagreeable.

Sorry I missed coming back to this, I launched a new clinic and two new job sites so I was a little busy.

Thats good to know, I was just curious, most peoples ego become so wrapped up in “work” or their “identity” that they fail to know when to draw the line. And yes some people do love to label them self an asshole.

The art of intelligent discussion is lost on the internet, and I see unfortunately that has also evolved in the real world.

Carry on
