I just did this. I was on the snus, then I got addicted to the nicotine lozenges, then I swapped back and forth between those regularly.
I had an epiphany and knew I was done.
I picked up the patch. I started on step 2 which as 14mg/day for two weeks, then step 1 7mg/day for two weeks, then none. The reason I like the patch is you don’t get to pick when you have nicotine and you’ve effectfully quit dipping but have some nicotine to prevent major flip outs.
Those lozenges are dangerous and in the big ones there’s up to 4mg of nicotine which is like 4 cigarettes. I’d bite them in half, but I think I got more addicted to nicotine from those. Either way, it was that or walking around with a snus in almost 100% during my waking hours, so I was pretty addicted.
I chewed about about 40 packs of gum during that time. I also found the ground beef jerky in a tin that looks like a dip. I use that some sometimes. Theres also some ground coffee bean dip on the market: Collections – Grinds Coffee Pouches . I never used it, but it’s an option.
Either way, the hardest part should be the first couple weeks. It wasn’t too bad using the patch and I didn’t have any flip outs, but had trouble sleeping when my dose changed that lasted a couple days. I’ve pretty much stabilized.
During the hard part all I did was avoid going inside the gas station, focused a lot on cooking good healthy food for myself, and pretty much devoted that entire month to cementing the no nicotine habit. I still trained, worked, and what not my extraneous thoughts were directed towards chilling out and avoiding nicotine. Looking back, it was pretty peaceful.
Good luck. If you’ve made it 5 days the hardest part should be over.
After eating has become the hardest part for me and sitting at home. If im at the gym or at work it only slightly bothers me but im not giving up man im gonna ride this out. Thanks for the support.

I recently quit dipping its been about 5 days now and its hard as hell my go to dips were copenhagen long cut wintergreen or kodiak wintergreen.
Has anyone quit completely what has helped you? Ive been chewing gum and menthol cough drops and putting the gum in my lip lol[/quote]
So there I was thinking you were giving up Tricep Dips.
It made no sense that you might use a chewing gum to help. I had to Google the crap out of ‘Copenhagen long cut’ to find out you’re a snuff fiend.
I try to learn something new every day…I think this counts, which has relieved the pressure for the rest of the day. Thanks!
good luck man. you can do it but it likely will not be easy.
I tried several times, always going back worse than ever before finally giving it up for good 10 years ago.
Mine was mostly Skoal long cut.
my advice: Do Not Buy Any! sounds silly but I would tell myself I could just dip a little… always ended up doing more until it was just not available.
be aware of situations you psychologically associate with dipping and be prepared. for me, things like hunting, fishing, yard work, late night coding sessions.
Actually almost started this exact same thread yesterday. Been dipping for about 6 years. Longest I ever quit was for 2 months, one of which I was abroad in China so didn’t really have a choice. Showering is the hardest part for me. I always throw in a lip when i shower. It has just become like a ritual habit at this point.
Let me know what you find useful. I shall be trying to quit right along side you.

I dipped from 12 to 18 years old a lot. It started because everybody chewed during baseball season. Back then coaches didn’t care. The day that I quit forever was when I was at the dentist and he asked me if I chewed. I admitted to it. He then proceeded to show me pic after pic of people with cancer of the mouth, no jaw left etc. etc. Never dipped again. That was 20 years ago and I still sometimes want a dip. Good luck.

edit: did the math. been dipping for 8 years not 6. Crazy enough my dentist has never once asked me if I chewed. Even after a 3 year lay off from the dentist he said I looked fine.
I quit when I saw a guy whose lower jaw had been removed after he had cancer. The sight of his tongue hanging out of what remained of his mouth is one I will never forget. Quit cold turkey then. Been over 12 years. Still love the smell of Copenhagen though.
Glad to see this thread. I need to quit too. I have one full can that I just opened. I will try to make it be my last. It seems stupid to throw away a brand new can. Been dipping/chewing roughly a can per day since I was in HS. In the 1980s in Alabama it was just the thing to do. The first can of Copenhagen I bought was just under $1.00, I believe it was 97 cents. That is how long ago it was. I just turned 43.
My dentist was shocked to learn how long I had been dipping because he could not even tell that I did. Same thing with the oral surgeon who removed my wisdom teeth. Never had any problems but I still need to stop, even if it is just due to the financial stupidity of it all. $1.00 to $4.00 per day, every day, for 25 years+/-… holy shit I wish I hadn’t thought about that…
I can’t speak for anywhere outside Oklahoma but it is pretty common here. It was almost a badge of honor in high school to have the white circle in your jeans pocket.
I never tried anything like gum, or mints and patches were not available back then. I just worked on fighting the cravings and not having it available. It seems like it took a good 30 plus days to get by the worst of it. I still occasionally feel like having a dip but know that I can not.
