Chewing Tobacco & Muscle?

chewimg tobacco… I know of all the unhealthy things that can and will occur from this habit. One of the things i love more than this is lifting weights and what little muscle i got. lol so besides the usual negative effects of tobacco, does anybody know what it can do to harm muscles or performance in the gym? i researched a lot online but didn’t find much on how it can affect gym performance.

thanks

Might be harder to eat food when your jaw rots off.

ya that’s true…it’s a nasty habit and one i plan on giving up starting right now…thanks for your time tho guys…i have been thinking about it lately and i just realized who gives a rats ass if it doesn’t hurt muscle growth, etc, it’s still unattractive, unhealthy, etc…so whatever it’s gone…now if i find that it builds muscle…i’ll chew till my jaw rots off…lol

thanks again guys…

Well that didn’t take much convincing…

Good luck, buddy.

“If it bleeds, we can kill it.”

“That’s a nasty habit you got there…”

lol so it would seem they should include lifting weights to fight tobacco addiction.

im not sure if its just smoking or all tobacco products in general that hurt your cardiovascular system. and honestly if it screws up your mouth its probly not the only thing its screwing up so id stay away from it.

This may be completely off and I can’t cite a source, but I remember hearing that nicotine constricts your blood vessels.

You chew only because you’re addicted.

I haven’t had a cigarette for 2 months and I feel better all over. I don’t feel like a slave to the nicotine anymore. My sense of taste and smell returned. I have more energy. My breath smells better. Most importantly, I feel better knowing my loved ones won’t see me die from cancer.

Just quit. You don’t want throat cancer. You don’t want mouth cancer.

Use the patch - it works. Quitting cold turkey SUCKS.

Do you like GIRLS better than you like chewing tobacco? Undoubtedly, that nasty habit has kept more than a few of them at bay.

I dip on a semi-regular basis and I’m fine.

I’ve been clean for sometime now…there’s another thread on here about this…just quit…it’s one of the worst things you can do physically, mentally and emotionally…I’m not trying to bash on anyone that does it, but in my experience it made me a slave and I don’t want to be a slave…

Agreed, moderation is key. A pinch now and again is not going to hurt you. A can a day however is another story.

Moderation? I keep looking for that word in my dictionary and I just can’t seem to find it ! 2 cans of copenhagen per day Friday - Sunday was the norm with a can a day during the week…

Yowza…

The main point I got from that article, is that snuff is much, much worse than long cut tobacco. And, heavy users are way more likely (80%) to develop pre-cancerous lesions than moderate to light users.

1-2 cigarettes a day here. Not addicted. Still go days without one sometimes.

Moderation really is key. Besides, I know that if I become addicted, I will no longer feel the depressant-like stupor/buzz that I feel a good 5-10 minutes after smoking.
