Hi!
I would very much like if someone could help me out with some info. about quiting smoking cannbis! I am trying but with not much of success. I have been smoking heavily daily for a couple of years now. And I would like to quit!
Is there someone out hear who can give me some tips about drugs or supplements that would help me through the withdrawl? (you know- sleepless nights, irritated, alittle bit depressed, allways thinking about the smoke, etc…) Or any other tips?
Generally using one drug to quit another drug is a poor solution, but you might ask your doctor for a mild sleeping pill (e.g. Ambien). Be careful though, because sleeping pills are addictive so you don’t want to use it every night (or for a long period of time). More useful is to find something to take your mind off of pot. You need to fill the time that you used to spend smoking with some other pleasurable activity. Perhaps you can workout during your former smoking time? Fortunately, pot is one of the easiest drugs to quit, and it should get easier over time. Good luck!
Based on your symptoms you described, I would do the following: 1) take a serving of Power Drive first thing in the morning and last thing at night (or take second serving in the evening when you feel most depressed/irritable. 2) take a large dose (18mg.) of melatonin and ZMA (3 caps) right before bed. It should take about a month to fully realize the effects.
The drugs most often used to treat drug withdrawl are the same drugs that are used to treat major mental illness. Examples of the type of drugs I’m talking about are anticonvulsant/antimanic agents such as Depakote (Divalproex Sodium) and antipsychotic agents such as Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate). The good thing about these drugs is that they are not addictive. However, I don’t know if these powerful agents would be appropriate for withdrawl from a mild drug such as marijuana.
You have to get out of that social circle that your probably in now , that means getting rid of any freinds who you smoke with or deal with ,woithout these people around you it will make it easier to quit .Replace these friends with people who dont smoke ,or socialise with freinds who dont smoke. then buy some melatonin to make you sleep better ,and some Power Drive from Biotest to make you feel better. And as a option some ZMA .
I am drug free after several years of hard drug use and 7 years of heavy weed smoking. muners is right. you have to break away from those friends that use. It is impossible to be clean and hang around with people that are high. A.A. or N.A. meetings can help but you have to be sincere about quitting. Working out hard can keep you clean if you are really in to it because remember, POT RAISES ESTROGEN LEVELS. Good luck!
The chinese have a saying,‘one does not fight a demon with direct confrontation, but by tending toward that which is good’. You need to make sure that you are enjoying life more off the weed than on it; that is the most important thing. If you are sitting around bumming out your brain will understand that you had more fun while smoking. The ambien idea is a good one; it shouldn’t make you tired in the morning. You need all the sleep and energy you can get. As far as supplements and stuff, I would say no, there aren’t any, except maybe St. John’s Wort for mild depression. If your depression is serious, though, it won’t help. I personally don’t think that 12 step programs are a good idea, been there, done that, have the T-shirt to prove it; however, that is a personal thing and it works well for some. Best of luck to you bro, I used to be a big pot-head, myself, and I understand exactly how you are feeling. Understand, also, that it will take between 4 and 6 months for your behavior and mood to return to normal. There will be many ups and downs until then, but remember that you are only one hit away from getting back into it,so don’t rationalize doing even that one hit, as tempting as it may be.
Ambien is definitely a good drug to relieve nighttime anxiety and to induce sleep. However, ambien is a controlled substance and is addictive. This drug is like a cross between barbiturates and benzodiazepines, as far as its effects are concerned. Ironically, taking this drug induces a feeling very similar to a marijuana high! So I suppose it’s not surprising that stoners are partial to this drug.
Thanks for your help! I should have mentioned that I have been seriusly hooked on speed and benzodiazepines. I have been clean from them for years now, exept for trying some benzodiazepines to sleep! Benzo dindt work at all neither did Ambien. I have to say that although considered mild, It is much harder for me to quit smoking pot then it was to stop the harder drugs! And it wasn´t the the best following years in my life after I quit the other two drugs together. Most of my friend, family etc. don´t smoke. Most of them dont even realize how that I smoke pot or at least not that I am doing 100 - 150gram per month! I am seriuos! I am working out stoned I go my work stoned and people dont realize it! (Thank you Clear Eyes:=)
I guess I was asking if there were some drug/s that are used as a step on the way! Kind of Nubain addicts using tramadol to combat withdrawl before they ditch the nubain! But I really do appreciate all answers!
I’m quite surprised that Benzos and Ambien aren’t helpful for your insomnia, but perhaps it has to do with you’re being hooked on the Benzos before. You might try a mild dose of a Tricyclic Antidepressant (e.g. Doexepin) for sleep. Tricyclics are non addictive (and useless as recreational drugs), but pretty effective sleeping pills. I occasionally use 25 mg of Doxeping for insomnia, and the only side effect is dry mouth the next day. I also have a theory on why milder drugs are sometimes harder to quit. When you were doing speed, the downside was probably pretty readily apparent, whereas you can probably smoke a little pot with no obvious downside. This leaves less incentive to quit. You might try “Rational Recovery” to see if that helps. They have a web site (just use any old search engine and you’ll find it) with their methods laid out, and you can get the hang of it in about an hour. Again, Good Luck!
A doctor prescribed zoloft for me to help me quit. but i think a placebo would work just as well. with pot, it is really just a psycological thing you have to overcome. just keep telling yourself i don’t need this. if i do it, i am a pussy.
