Quick Low Carb Questions

Alright so ive been getting some pretty great results with running and lifting for almost a year with a restricted (low carb) carb diet, but for so long when i go grocery shopping ive been passing up some things that im never sure about so i dont buy…

Natural peanut butter- I LOVE IT but are the carbs in it “bad” carbs? I know processed pb isnt good for me really but how about the natty pb? Like im wondering if it counts like brocolli does, it has carbs but “do they count”?

1% cottage cheese- I always read about how cottage cheese is a good snack but when i went to buy it, i looked at the back and god damnit there were a decent amount of carbs!

Black beans- I read a “low carb” recipe for a stir fry and went a picked up a few cans of black beans (they said to replace the rice with black beans) but then when I got home I read on another website that black beans are high in carbs!!! The difference in information is bugging the hell out of me so I wanted to get the truth from the best!!!

Thanks a lot ahead of time guys/ girls

O! and if anyone has low carb ideas for food PLEASE let me know, always looking for new things to try, REALLY!

Carbs are carbs. Some spike your blood quickly and intensely, some enter the stream slowly.

Beans have carbs, they also have a decent amount of fiber to subtract from the carb count. Beans digest slowly, so they don’t cause a major sugar spike, they also have (incomplete) protein, unlike many carb sources.

There are some mushroom based noodle substitutes out there that are good. It all depends on how low you want to be going.

Dairy all has carbs, lactos is a sugar. Peanuts have carbs. Like beans they also have protein, so that’s “good”, they also have some decent fat. All in all they are high-every, high-calorie, and I’d avoid it unless you’re trying to put on weight.

What are you trying to do? Ketosis? Or are you looking for “good” carbs.

Im not even sure what I should be doing to be honest man. Like I have lost some decent weight but Im not sure if I should keep dieting or maybe do a bulk or not.

Pretty much just lost right now. If you have a second and dont mind taking a look at my log from a month or two ago, id appreciate some insight on what I should maybe do.

Congrats on your weight loss and transformation. Just by your pics…I would think it is ok to start eating a good amount of carbs now. I know this might be scary but trust me you need carbs.

First decide what your goals are.

I would pull up the anabolic diet…it cycles high carbs days and low carb days. This would be a good transition for you and I believe you will make pretty good gains.

BTW peanut butter I never count them as carbs…neither cottage cheese. Beans are ok in small quanitities and yes they are slow digesting.

thanks a lot man, the weight loss was hard as hell to be honest, working all the type in construction and then working out and running after work freaking KILLED ME! BUT!!! More then just looking and feeling better, i learned a lot about myself, now I know I can accomplish what I put my mind to.

About adding carbs and stuff to my diet. I would LOVE to put some serious muscle on but I still have a lot of extra skin and chub along my belt line, you cant see it in the picture because my lower stomach isnt visible ( the camera shots sucked off of the mirror, i can take a better one if it would help???) I am wondering if I should keep dieting to get rid of that extra shit or what?

Any help is appreciated and I am going to take a look at the anabolic diet. Thanks bro

Dont worry about that skin…as you put on mass it will fill out some.

Good luck…and again congrats.

with the anabolic diet what kind of training do you think I should do? 5x5 or what?

Im also wondering about taking some HOT-ROX Extreme when i start adding more carbs into my diet? What do you think?

No need for HOT-ROX…your trying to pack on some good quality muscle. You need to start eating carbs and lifting heavy. 5*5 is great if you go heavy!

Stick to the diet…lift your ass off. Hold on on the supplements or any thermogenic.

Anabolic diet is just to introduce carbs to your diet. I gather you rmight be a bit reluctant because low carbs is what made you loose weight. Anabolic diet is to loose fat.

If not the anabolic diet to intro carbs…search another mass gaining diet here.

Regarding the second question, and speaking as a Former Fat Boy myself, I would hold off on the HOT-ROX when you add carbs back in.

There’s nothing wrong physiologically with having them together, and your body would be able to handle it (presumably), but the mentality of ‘appreciating’ carbs in the diet after having them out for so long is tough to grasp, and slowly adding carbs back in the diet to see the affect carbs ALONE have on your body is worth holding off on HOT-ROX for a while.

From experience, I took a thermogetic (not HOT-ROX, some shitty OTC one at GNC) when I reintroduced carbs, and I believe that the diuretic effect distorted my perception of how the carbs were affecting my body composition, and the stimulatory effect was affecting my perception of how much carbs make me feel energetic/sluggish. It took about a year to sort that shit out.

you guys are completely right about being reluctant to add carbs back in. Even eating the black beans with my stir frys is bugging me to be honest. Im kind of thinking maybe for the next while just eating like I have been but adding some rice and beans and such to my diet. Maybe some more eggs with breakfast and things like that? Does that seem like a good idea? Im just not really feeling like jumping back into such a strict and timed diet. I want to be able to enjoy things when im out with the guys and shit (is this is stupid just say it!)
