oh yeah of course i agree with that. but do you think taking some the day before the test will have any affect? i just took some so im wondering how long i should wait to take the test.

Yes, try ALCAR and let me know how you get on. Hopefully it won’t make you fall asleep on the motorway at 11am on a saturday morning, like it did with me

Makes me sleepy as hell too. I take 2g with my pre-training drink (BCAAs).

Why is it that I can take a large 4 cap dose of a GDA containing Na-R-ala and not feel hypo at all? I’m talking taking this mid training…and not eating the carbs for 30-45mins after.

not sure if mentioned, be sure to get R-ALA form. That’s the form that will be best used by the body (natural form), rather than just ALA which is the s- form that doesn’t get utilized well and is not beneficial.

Midway through training I take this: NaR-ALA 400mg, Gymnema Sylvestre 900mg, Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg, L-Norvaline 400mg, Coleus Forskohlii(20% forskolin) 180mg, Synephrine HCL 60mg, Banaba Leaf 36mg.

About 30-45 mins after taking that I have approx. 75-100g of really high GI carbs (kids cereal etc) with 30mg Whey isolate, 5g leucine and 5g creatine mono.

I’ve never felt light headed or anything taking this complex…

I was taking 200mg ALA per ~50g carbs. So, I’d usually take 200mg ALA with meals 1, 2 and 4, then 400mg with meal 3 an hour after training.

I just got some R-LA (r Lipoic Acid) and remember hearing that you’re supposed to take less. The bottle contains 100mg pills. Should I just take 100 mg per ~50g carbs?

I’ve heard that it’s ‘dangerous’ to take too much, so wanted to play it safe by asking a bunch of anonymous internetters

[/quote] If you have some ALCAR left, then better use it with some post-WO carbs, or with your dinner.

that is fine to start as ,theoretically i believe, there would be 100mg r-ALA in a 200mg ALA cap

Ok, for the past few months on a gaining phase I’ve been taking about 400g carbs on training days, give or take.

Anyway, after a month or so, I started using ALA (generic). About 200mg per ~50g carbs. So I’d usually take 200 mg with 3 meals and 400mg with the bigger carb meal of the day.

Now, last night I bought some R-LA. I’m assuming that’s r-ALA.

Here’s what I did today and how I felt. lol

Meal 1: ~ 60g carb, 50g protein, 15g fat
100mg R-LA

Training Shake: 30g carbs (Waxy Maize), 25g whey

About 45 minutes after training:
150g carb, 50 g whey
200mg R-LA

So, I had the big carb meal around 12:30 this afternoon. At around 3pm I was in class and started to feel cold shivers, and I felt a bit light headed (just a bit) and most noticeably weak and uncoordinated, like writing with accuracy was physically difficult. Nothing serious, but noticeable. I reckon this was hypoglycemia?

I was just curious though. I’ve heard that 100mg R-LA is ~ equivalent to 200mg ALA. So my 200mg dose of R-LA is equivalent to my 400mg ALA. If that’s the case, howcome my 200mg R-LA got me all hypo, whereas 400mg ALA doesn’t have any physical effect?

not sure if it’s proven but some people believe the s-isomers counter act the r-isomers

check the label it should say “r-ala… 100mg”

yeah it says R-alpha Lipoic Acid (thioctic acid) 100mg
