Questions About Peri-Workout Nutrition

CT,

First off thanks for all that you do for the readers here- we are, without a doubt, some of the most spoiled forum-goers on the planet to be able to receive free advice from people such as yourself and the other experts that frequent the site.

In regards to alternative workout supplementation protocols: I’m not able to jump full go with the ANACONDA protocol financially just yet, but, having previously purchased “bulk” orders of Alpha-GPC, Beta-7, Surge Workout Fuel, and Biotest’s creatine, I’m wondering if a protocol using MAG-10 in conjunction with the other listed supplements would be effective as a “poor man’s version” of the protocol.

For example… this is where I could use your help

-90: 5mL Alpha-GPC
-~60 2-3 caps Beta-7
-45 begin mixing 2 scoops MAG-10, 5-10g Creatine, 1 scoop Surge Workout Fuel (in 2000mL water)
-30 1.5 scoops Surge Workout Fuel (alone)
-15 begin drinking 1000mL MAG-10+ mixture
During: sip remaining 1000mL MAG-10+ mixture during and after workout
+60 solid meal

What do you think?

CT,

The store is out of my beloved chocolate Surge Recovery so I took the plunge and ordered some Anaconda. Looking at the cost, I’m getting 2/3 serving of Anaconda for the same as 1 servings of Surge Recovery. I had been doing this:

-60 1 FiniBar
-30 1 serving Surge Workout Fuel
-0 1 serving Surge Recovery

What if I replaced that 1 serving of Surge Recovery with 2/3 serving of Anaconda? Would you expect it to perform better or worse than what I’ve been doing? I guess what I’m really wondering is if 1 serving is really the minimum effective dose of Anaconda. I know you probably haven’t experimented with less than a serving, but you know a lot about casein hydrolysate and probably the other compounds in Anaconda as well. An educated guess would be very helpful! Thanks for you time.

With the guideline to establish the nutritional starting point with the first protocol: 1-1,25 grams of protein per bw, 60-80 grams of fat, no carbs except para workout.

Whatâ??s the starting point with the current protocol as there isnâ??t such amount of carbs?

Thanks

When carb cycling for mass, does the Anaconda Protocol count towards the days total calories, protein, carbs?

CT,

I apologize if this has already been asked, I’m not sure where the most current Anaconda questions are being asked as the original discussion thread is closed and I can’t find a “part 2”-

Anyway, I put in an order for 1 Anaconda and 1 MAG-10. I want to try this stuff, and this is all I could afford at the moment.

My thought was to use 2 scoops of Anaconda per workout, and two scoops of MAG-10 (so just dropping from 3 scoops Anaconda to 2). Also, I head to the gym about an hour after dinner, so I simply dropped the Finibars. Perhaps in the future with a different schedule I will include them.

I assume I would still see noticeably better results using the 2/2 protocol, vs the gains I would see without any Anaconda or MAG-10.

Could I have your thoughts on this?

Coach,

if C. Poliquin writes about “beeing able to load nutrients efficiently”, what does that actually mean?

isn’t anybody who’s using a more or less correct peri-workout nutrition combined with good overall nutrition throughout the day a somewhat “efficient nutrient loader” ?

maybe to put it in context, there is a split option, 4 days on
DayI) Chest/Hams - DAyII) Back+Shoulders - DayIII) Quad, Calves - DayIV Arms + (forearms) - off
and for this split he states it’s VERY beneficial for someone whos able to load nutr. efficiently

whats your take on this one

Any help would be awesome,

 1. What would be the most effective para-workout strategy with 2 bottles MAG-10, creatine, and whey isolate? (I’ll have to use natural carbs?)
 2. Would it be more effective to pulse in the morning upon waking or prolong my supply for para-workout?

I’ll be buying more supplements in the future,
Thanks!

Obviously this is not ideal, but with what you have I would do…

45 minutes prior
5 rice cakes
2 scoops whey isolate
10g creatine

20 minutes prior
2 scoops MAG-10
25g sugar

During
2 scoops MAG-10

Oh yeah, both products will indeed boost your work capacity and recovery.

These are probably stupid questions and off-topic but any answers are appreciated:

 1. What should my solid meals look like? I usually eat some cashews/almonds a few hours before my workout to avoid carbs.

 2. What should I do post-workout? Should I take a scoop of whey-iso or the MAG-10 60 minutes after? And then a solid meal for long-chain amino-acids 90 minutes after workout?

 3. Aren’t rice cakes high on the GI, which kind of rice-cake would I be looking for?

I, like 99.99% of the training world, don’t have access to Anaconda or any of the other high end secret supplements that you lucky ones have your hands on. What would be the best alternative para-workout nutrition for those who have access to the currently available Biotest supps(Surge Workout Fuel, Surge Recovery, BCAA, etc.) and other easily available supps?

Also, could you provide some cheaper alternatives to those who can’t afford the cost of certain protocols but want to optimize WO nutrition within their budget?

Thanks
If you can’t get Anaconda the protocols to do are as follow:

PROTOCOL 1 (1-3 times per week, when working on a weak area)
Workout - 60 = Alpha-GPC
W - 40 = 1 FINiBAR
W - 30 = 2 scoops Surge Workout Fuel
W - 15 = 2 scoops Surge Recovery
During workout (early half) = 1 FINiBAR
During workout (later half) = 1 scoop Surge Workout Fuel
W + 15 = Grow! Whey 2 scoops
W + 90 minutes = Grow! Whey 2 scoops

PROTOCOL 2 (other workouts)
Workout - 60 = Alpha-GPC
W - 40 = 1 FINiBAR
W - 30 = 2 scoops Surge Workout Fuel
During workout (early half) = 1 FINiBAR
During workout (later half) = 1 scoop Surge Workout Fuel
W + 15 = 1 scoop Surge Recovery, 1 scoop Grow! Whey
W + 90 = Grow! Whey 2 scoops
could those Grow! shakes in the post-wo period be in milk for more calories? or would the macro’s in milk mess up the desired physiological effect?

Would it be a good idea to use R-ALA or Chromium in the Pre-workout Protocol?

Coach,

As far as using JUST MAG-10 is concerned, if I’m using 2 scoops of Surge Recovery, half before, half during/after, when would be a good time to add a scoop of MAG-10? Post workout?

 1. take ALL the Surge Recovery before the workout. You can’t stimulate much insulin release when catecholamines are in the blood (during and after a workout)

 2. Have a scoop of MAG-10 before and 1 during. That would be the minimum I would use.

Have the recovery around 20 minutes before the workout. First dose of MAG-10 around 10 minutes before and the rest during the workout.

Anything that can increase insulin sensitivity will help. Now, these two products are not super high on my own priority list. They will work, but by themselves I honestly can’t justify the cost. But that’s me.

I’m not replying, I’m actually trying to post my own question. Mr. Thibaudeau, I’m 6’2" about 204lbs. Recently, I’ve lost about 18lbs from both improving my diet and swearing off alcohol. Now I’m too “scrawny.” Apart from increasing my loads and training volume, I’m looking to augment/improve my peri-workout nutrition routine.
Basically, I take a half serving of Surge Recovery during and a full serving after, along with BCAAs during throughout. Any new ideas you could give would be very appreciated. Thanks a lot!
