Questions About Peri-Workout Nutrition

Coach Thibs-

Which of the two CH pulses would you say are more important-during the Workout or one hour afterward? I am using a pure CH product and a CH/WheyHydr mix so I am just trying to decide when to use each one (this fits my budget better).

Thanks CT

Bill I think you were right from the get go, it’s the amount of water that I was taking in right before my training that was making me feel horrible during workouts.

I did the same exact thing on the water intake. I wasn’t feeling bad during the workout like you were, I was feeling bad AFTER the workout. I have since reduced the water used in the various supps and I feel 1000% better when I get home.

Question for Thib or Bill Roberts,

I’ve been taking two scoops of Surge Workout Fuel and two scoops of Recovery with 20 oz and 16 oz of water as per label instructions. And I’ve felt bloated and a bit light headed during my workouts. I’ve even took Thibs advice and had a Finibar midway through. Is it possible that I’m consuming a bit too much water as well. If so, how much should I reduce it by?

Thanks,

what kind of Koolaid? Red koolaid would be badass.

Christian, what do you think about using Vitargo as a pre workout supp? Vitargo with some whey isolate before/during and then after.

He already has a response to this question:

Bill, CT (if you were following my posts) and everyone else,

I would like to apologize for getting worked up over the protocol. I was wrong. I tweaked it just a little bit and I now feel 100 percent better during workouts.

I cut the times even closer together this time, more like CT’s exact protocol and I still feel OK during workouts. The only major thing I changed - I cut the water intake down even more. I made the SWF and SR before the workout very concentrated, then with my 1 scoop of SR during, I mix that with a 32 oz bottle of water.

I’m thinking of even upping to two Finibars for leg day tomorrow.

Oh and PS -

I got some Casein Hydrolysate and it truly does taste like vomit.

Biotest, Casein Hydrolysate please? !

I’m not saying that Biotest will come up with a pure casein hydrolysate product… but IF they do, they will only release it once they are able to make it taste as good as Kool-Aid.

How close are they?
Yeah, I’m gonna fall for that one…

Read some of the posts above yours… too much water is likely what is causing this.

I’m glad it’s worked out for you!

Actually, Justin Harris had said that taking a mixture that was 15% or less aminos, etc added to waxy maize would not slow down the absorbtion.

I have tried both Vitaro and waxy maize, and they don’t act the same in my body. The Vitargo goes through much faster.

So maybe Vitargo spikes insulin faster, and then bcaa’s, proteins can be taken 15-20 minutes after?

Hey Coach,
I plan on doing your Get Jacked on August 16th after my current routine since I have to lose some extra fat before I can try your upcoming I, BODYBUILDER program. Because of your new para-workout nutrition protocol, what would you change in the Get Jacked pre and post workout nutrition. Glutamine and protein powder are required during weeks 1-4, with fruit added in weeks 3 and 4. If I know where to place the fruit and glutamine, I believe I can figure out weeks 5-8.
I learned how to time the use of BCAA and Surge Workout Fuel in your other threads.
Thanks for your time.
I’m not sure if this was answered already. I looked and could not find a reply. I just bought GJ and am interested in your response to this. Thanks!

I tried the protocol today for the first time… Incredible pump, I never thought that you get that sort of kick while on the 5x5 programme, and even if it doesn’t necessarily mean better muscle growth it’s a good feeling. Felt a bit light-headed during the first few minutes of my workout after drinking Surge Recovery but only for a short while. I think I was able to lift a bit more but it’s probably due to the Surge WF placebo effect.

Hey Coach,

Question about using insulin for a type one Diabetic. My cousin is training for football and is a type one diabetic. He has an ā€œinsulin pumpā€ hooked up to him, so he can dispense insulin into his body at virtually any time he wants to. I’m assuming his coaches have him on their own protocol that they want him to follow as far as supplements go, but should I be encouraging him to pump that shit before, during and post workout (I’ve already checked with his mother, who is a long time nurse, and this is medically OK).

He kind of looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested him that he could use his condition to an advantage, but I wanted to look into it more before I really pushed for him to make this a habit.

Have you or any of your colleagues ever delt with a type 1 diabetic before and did you encourage them to use their insulin for an advantage? I’m assuming that an external source of insulin could be just as effective as a self induced insulin spike, but I have no expertise in this field other than what I read here at T-Nation.

CT, I’m currently taking Surge Workout Fuel during my training sessions and wanted to know can I still continue to take BCAA as well or alternate both every 10 days. I train 4 days a week.

Thanks

Rich

Don’t alternate, both things don’t work the same…

Take your BCAAs 30 minutes before your session
Can I still consume Surge Workout Fuel during my training sessions?

Thanks

My apologies if this has been asked in a previous post…

Coach, I’d like for you to finish the arguement for ā€œall you need is chocolate milkā€ after a workout. I know my answer, but I’d like to hear yours. A friend of mine got into a ā€œdiscussionā€ with one of the trainers at a local Crossfit Gym and along with chocolate milk, he said you don’t need protein powder (in a perfect world) or fish oil.

Thib’s please put this argument to rest!

Hey CT,

Thanks for all the help so far - these forums have been very useful for me (and others as well I’m sure).

I am starting your HSS-100 chest specialization program in a couple of weeks and want to make sure I have the para-workout protocol as good as I can get it before I begin. I have been experimenting with what’s been posted so far, but everything keeps changing and depending on which thread I am reading the base protocols appear to be different, although all of them are somewhat similar. This is what I am currently planning:

PRIORITY DAYS (3 per week)
W-90 Alpha GPC (2 caps)
W-45 1 FiNiBAR
W-30 2 Scoops Surge Workout Fuel
W-15 2 Scoops Surge Recovery
Workout: 1 Scoop Surge Recovery sipped throughout
W+15 2 Scoops Grow! whey
W+90 2 Scoops Grow! whey

OTHER DAYS (2 per week)
W-90 Alpha GPC (2 caps)
W-45 1 FiNiBAR
W-30 2 Scoops Surge Workout Fuel
Workout: 1 Scoop Surge Recovery sipped throughout
W+15 2 Scoops Grow! whey
W+90 2 Scoops Grow! whey

Assuming that finances are not an issue, what would you add (barring Anaconda) or change to make this protocol better?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DT

Not that I want to answer for thib but this protocol was the ā€œoldā€ one

He than later in this thread said the best protocol was

-90 Alpha GPC
-45 2 Finibars
-30 2 scoops Surge Workout Fuel
-15 2 scoops Surge Recovery
During : 2 Scoops Anaconda
+60 20g Casein Hydrolysate

And than… since we dont have access to Anaconda, I think it was agreed best thing would be to use 1 scoop Surge Workout Fuel + 20g Casein Hydrolysate during the workout

Maybe CT can confirm?

Ok CT or Bill,

If I’m doing this -

-90 1-2 Finibars
-45 2 scoops SWF
-15 2 scoops SR

and I purchased some casein hydrolysate, what is better to sip during workout -

1 scoop SR

or

1 scoop SWF with 20g casein hydrolysate?

I know both are acceptable, but I want the best alternative for Anaconda until it comes out.
