I was wondering, in a fat-protein meal with minimal carbs, would glycerin count as a carb? I wasn’t sure, since it’s not supposed to effect insulin. I’d like to get your opinion on it.
From what I understand the body will still metabolize the glycerin as a carbohydrate even though the effect on insulin is supposed to be minimal. The glycerin will cause you to retain more water than normal and a steady diet of it (ie. protein bars) will tend to smooth you out a bit. Not to mention it makes your ear wax take on a dark brown appearance. Yikes! That’s another topic. :o)
IMHO, every calorie of glycerin is a wasted opportunity to provide your muscles calories with nutritional benefit.
