I would like to start the quattro dynamo program program soon, but as I was getting psyched up for it, I ran into a problem. How can I cycle that with my martial arts training?
I go to the dojo 2 times a week for 1-2 hours, and once a week (Saturday) for 3-4 hours. My style is very similar to Tae Kwon Do, so there will be a lot of explosive work, and endurance work.
As you can see, I’m in a bit of a dilemma here, and I don’t know how I can mix the program with my martial arts training.
I don’t think it would be wise, CNS and recovery, to continue your martial arts training when doing the routine. It’s a beyond extreme demanding routine and requires a high level of CNS and total body recovery. If you add martial arts into the mix you’re body will not have a chance to recuperate from the intensity of the workouts. You’ll burn out before you can really get started with the routine. I would highly suggest you curb your martial arts training during Quattro Dynamo. The routine is about working out to extreme tolerances and rest and recuperation. There really isn’t room for much else.
Thanks, PGA.
I guess I won’t be able to use Quattro Dynamo. I can’t give up my martial arts training, as every session is vital. I will be getting into competition soon, so I’m in greater need of martial arts training than I am in need of putting on mass.
Thanks, coach Waterbury for writing this article. Unfortunately, I don’t have most of the equipment to do this, as I just train in my basement (where I have a home gym, cardio machines, a wavemaster punching bag and a chinup bar). However, I will maintain the same principles. I will stick exclusively with multi-joint exercises (probably bench press, squat, deadlift, and sternum chinup), and I will maintain the same rep and set schemes.
I figure I won’t need to do additional cardio, as I will get plenty of that at the dojo.
Just in case you’re wondering (and even if you’re not), my goal is to lose weight in my lower body. I am very satisfied with my upper body. I am as defined as I would like to be. In my lower body, however, I can’t seem to be able to get rid of the fat. It’s as if all my fat is stored in my lower body.
I considered several programs, like German Volume Training, High Octane Cardio and your Quattro Dynamo. It seemed like you had the best case, but turns out that combined with my martial arts training it would be too taxing. I still have a couple of weeks to come up with another program.
So that’s my story. I look forward to training during my break
