Quest For a 1.25 x BW Push Press

Just started my quest for a 1.25 a bodyweight push press and wondering if any would join. Post pics, training, progress etc.

I know its not a huge number but i recently just got 1.15 and really enjoyed training it and achieving it.

Do we have any 1.5 x bw pressers here?

Thanks

Hull

Hadn’t ever really focused on it to that extent mate but love the pushpress.

My best is 90kg x 3 at 73kg bodyweight. I just did the calculation and at that bodyweight i’d need a 110kg pushpress yow! Dont think that’s happening any time soon. Good luck with your goal.

Just a BW push press here, but I’m in on this thread. Love push press! Just did it yesterday, hit 210 at a bw of 210. 1.25x’s BW would be 265ish for me… lofty goal, let’s do this!

Love the push press too. I put my best changes in physique down to the push press. Nothing better for building shoulders in my opinion.

Just a note on the actual push press. I consider it a lift myself if it is held at the top in a contracted position for a minimum of 2 seconds. That way theres none of this pressing out infront and dropping straight down (plus theres nothing better than holding some peoples max bench overhead for a couple of seconds for everyone to admire  )

Last Friday I hit 100kg (220lbs) at a bodyweight of 87kg (192lbs). I aim to increase bodyweight to 90kg (198lbs) during the process therefore making my goal max weight 112.5kg (248lbs) giving the 1.25 x BW lift.

The gauntlet has been layed down

Im in, but shooting for strict overhead press at 1.25, not push press. Hit BW(175) for a double last week, then 185 for a single. Plan on being around 170 at the end of this dieting phase so Ill need 215ish. which puts me at 30 lb gain in 4-5 weeks. Easy? Nope but doable considering I started training OP again for the first time 2 weeks ago after zero pressing for close to 2 years.

Great idea for a thread Hull.

Wow man!! A 1.25 x bw strict press is seriously impressive. My plan was once I had got my 1.25 x bw push press to then attack my strict press. I feel setting and reaching a bw ratio goal is much better than just setting a weight. Its much more impressive having a 200lbs guy pressing 250lbs than a 300lb guy pressing 250lbs. I also hoped it would level the playing field for the thread.

Please do jump on. I have a feeling you may have some good advice to offer considering you are already strict pressing above bodyweight.

I’ve just realised that last night I calculated my goal at 1.5 x BW, not 1.25!

So in fact at 3 x 90kg i’m pretty much there as the goal is 91.25kg x 1. Maybe I’ll start shooting for 1.5 anyway?

Waiitz thats a very strong OP, especially after so long away from it.

I’m slated to hit a 1.25 strict press this training cycle with a 250lb press at 200lbs bodyweight. Using 5/3/1 for my press, and last cycle ended up with 245, so it should be within my range. I’m such an uncoordinated goon that this is probably the same number for my push press, haha.

300lbs @ 215ish bodyweight 1.4 Had more but this was a big PR so I called it.

Fixed the link:

That was impressive.

push pressed 245 at a body weight of 185 which comes out to about 1.3. I don’t think 1.5 will happen anytime soon.

Awesome PP there Reed.

My best so far is 105kg Push Press @ 85-87kg. My Military Press (Strict OHP) is much, much lower… 80kg.

One exercise (besides Savickas Press, Klokov Press, and “Scrape the Rack” Overhead Press) that I believe has helped me a lot with the OHP is the PHIL GRIPPALDI ¾ PUSH PRESS at 100-120% of my Push Press 1RM. Phil would perform these at the end of his pulling/pressing sessions and would aim for loads 90% or more of his 1RM Push Press; usually performing singles or doubles.

I got a bw x 3 last shoulder day so I’m in for this. I don’t really know how to clean very well from the floor so heavier weights may be a challenge, but I’m down.

I am only able to clean up to 95kg safely; after that I need to take the barbell from the rack.

I just kind of throw it up without dropping my body and catch it fully standing. I can’t figure out how to catch it like oly lifters do in the front squat position, it feels weird and unsafe.

The same here… my Power Clean is really a Muscle Clean with slightly bent knees… but I typically clean with straight legs. My knee dip on the Push Press is pretty shallow as well.

What is the Phil Grippaldi Push Press?

Also, when do you use which variation (Klokov, Savikas, Phil Grippaldi, scrape-the-rack, standard military, push press) in your training? Do you have a particular plan when you do which?
