Quebec Independence?

Nice. Your red neck is showing.

I don’t live in a trailer, own a firearm, drink beer, or own a 4X4. I probably have more college hours than you and your closest friend put together. I am hardly a redneck. Just because I detest pencil-necked idiots like you does not make me a red neck.
Rrrrrr!!! I’m Rainman! I went to college!!!

If you want people to stop thinking of you as an ignorant redneck, then stop acting like one.

Or, you could just start calling people ‘faggots’ again, because you really sound like you have soooooo many college hours when you do that.

I remember back ; I think in the late 80s , there was talk that if Quebec were to seperate what would they do about the military . It was suggested that they would trade natural resourses ( water) with the states for military protection.

I remember back in the late 80’s the Armys plan to use the 10th Mountain Division to invade/peacekeep in case of violent secession was published in the newspaper.

There were a lot of pissed off Canadians that the US had a plan to use its armed forces in Canada.

I use the word faggot to express my utter disdain for idiots like you and that makes me a red neck? I am proud of my state and its unique agreement with the U.S., therefore I am a red neck? Your logic makes no sense. Your hatred of Texas makes no sense. What does that make you? Just another un-educated bigot?

Actually, it gives you a good push in that direction, yes.

As for the loss of buiness personal , I d think that Quebec would easily hire workers from the States or Canada or any other place in the world and bring them to work in quebec. Just because someone chooses to work in a country for a few years doesnt mean they loss their native citizenship.
I don’t think it will be as easy as just “hiring more workers from the states and Canada”. What percentage of the population of Quebec is english speaking from other provinces/the US right now??

There’s approx 600,000 english speaking Canadians in Quebec. If we assume all weren’t born there and are just working for a few years that is less than 10% of the total population (of approx 7 million). That’s a pretty small number. And you think this number will go up if Quebec seperates? Really?

To fuel a growing economy (which a new country just fresh out of seperation will need) you need a steady influx of people. And I can guarantee that immigrants will find it easier to get into Canada than a seperated Quebec. So no way they’re going to get all those people from english Canada/US. No way.

Jprocrastinator:

 • you make an excellent, excellent point.

Quebec seperation will hurt Canada’s tax base, as well as Quebec’s. A huge blow.

It will make it more difficult for each country to come up with capital for large expenses.

Parallel to this, do we even have an idea of what it will do to Canada’s/Quebec’s economy? It’ll drop the Canadian dollar certainly (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but what about the larger economy and foreign investments??? Economies can be touchy things, who knows what this will do.

I keep harping on economy, but that is a nations lifeblood.

And the people of Quebec are trusting that politicians have figured all of this out and that it’ll turn up roses?

That scares the hell out of me. I wouldn’t trust a politician with my bag lunch.

People are also forgetting the difficulty that the maritime provinces would be faced with. Having a huge chunk of land in between the country would make for a mess really.

The whole thing is a mess, and I was watching a documentary on this which addressed the immigration issue. The last time this happened there was a statement regarding losing the vote to immigrants and english business cash. Then the resignation of Perizeau…nice.

The whole point of this doc was to get the view of the younger immigrants. Most of them stated that they would vote to separate b/c they feel at home with Quebec and not necessarily Canada as a whole. Also, businesses are trying to keep their market share in Montreal as well and thus aren’t putting up much of a fight like they did in the 80s. This is going to be very interesting…it’ll get closer than anyone thinks.

Personally, I think it’s rediculus! I almost want to let them go to prove that the grass is almost never greeener on the other side. What a disaster…all for what…some more recognition of a cultural difference. Obviously, by the little useless side rant on this thread between RainJack and a couple of brothers from Jersey, the difference in culture happen all over this earth. I just don’t understand the whole cultural breeding of whining. The licence plates still referrence remembering the war from long ago: “je me souvien.” Come now…

I’ll be watching this closely.
As a side note, there are also factions in Alberta and other western provinces that feel they should separate as well…it boils down to this. You live in Ontario, the rest of the country hates you…population desiding the vote and the majority of it being in Ontario…isolates westerners to the point of hatred. I grew up out west, moved to the “hated” land and still have discussinos at Christmas with my fam memebers about politics. I’m now one of “them” there are moany things rolling in this country…

Cheers,

T

Vroom - you wouldn’t know a redneck if he ran over you in his 4X4.

If I were a black man - what label would you pin on me for using faggot in a sentence? Please - I can’t wait to hear your reply.

If Quebec were to seperate tomorrow they would be no more able to preserve their culture than they are right now. The seperatists believe anglaphone Canada and immigration is to blame for their eroding culture, but as vroom stated, the world is an increasingly smaller place and american television and movies are eroding cultures across the world faster than anything else. I don’t neccessarily believe this to be negative, it just is what it is.

How about an “ignorant, homophobic moron”? Same as if you were purple or green.

HEY! HEY! Why do you have to go here? This is the one thread that has nothing to do with black people. Leave us out of this, Okay?

BTW, the label would be Ignorant motherf#(k3r.

I am more than willing to retract my ‘faggot’ remark - if in the future folks would stop using redneck to describe white people that live below the Mason-Dixon line.

Any takers?

How about abolishing childish insults altogether and sticking to witty ridiculing of the other person’s argument?

Because I am getting more than just a little tired of people thinking it is all right to malign white folks with racial epithets, while demonizing the use of the ‘N’ word, or calling gay people faggots.

Why is it that ignorance is displayed only when a WASP commits a PC faux pas? Either everyone is subject to these rules, or no one is. You guys decide - because I really don’t give a shit.

You’re way off base. Again.

You asked, “what if I were black and used the word ‘faggots’?” You would still be an ignorant, homophobic loser.

You are not allowed to play victim here. You are not being oppressed. You were the one who started letting hate spill out of your mouth and for absolutely no good reason whatsoever and someone called you on it.

Grow the fuck up.

I don’t think I ever called you a redneck before. If I did, I’ll retract my remark as well. Just to let you know though, there are rednecks above the Mason-Dixon line too.

Ignorance can be displayed by all types of people. It is just that some people that display way more than their fair share many times end up being a WASP. This is most likely due to the majority of the posters on this forum being WASPs.

Hell, y’all have ignorant hicks driving pickup trucks with gun racks, living in trailer parks and drinking shitty beer all over the US, not just in the south!

You aren’t a redneck because you are white, if that is what you are implying. You are a redneck because of your attitude and behavior – which is in fact fair game for discrimination.

Anyway, if that offends you, I’ll be happy to call you an ignorant, loud mouthed, low class bully with nothing to say and a penchant for saying it loudly.

Does that work for you? I’d hate to be using a term that made you uncomfortable…

Vroom: im kind of country myself. To an extent you are being somewhat closed-minded when you put rednecks and southern people together since these agrarian redneck types are all around the world. In Africa, South America, Mexico whatever agrarian people will have traditional values and attitudes. Besides if you try to make fun of somebody else’s life style they have reason to make fun of you? I mean when has Canada done anything cool?

One word: Rush.

The band Rush? I like that Tom Sawyer song… but the point remains
