Pyramiding vs. Straight Sets

What do you guys think is better for bodybuilding/hypertrophy purposes, Pyramiding or Straight Sets? I have only been lifting for 6 months and have had good results with straight sets, but have never tried pyramiding before and wondered what the consensus was on that style of lifting.

By the way, the type of pyramiding I am wondering about is adding weight and decreasing the reps.

This is a classic example of the “no right answer” type of question. Switch things up when you stagnate.

One thing you may consider is the total load you lift throughout a workout. For example if you do 3 sets of bench press at 200 pounds for 10 reps you have lifted 6000 pounds total. If you pyramid the weight e.g. 185x12, 200x10, 215x8 you have lifted 5920 pounds. Whatever that means.

I do both straight sets and pyramiding in the same session. I doubt one style is superior to the other.

I concur with Bonez, vary things up. I usually alternate between staight sets and pyramid sets on a weekly basis.

Whichever method will progress you to heavier weights faster is better.
