PWO Nutrition Question

Hey guys, quick question. I have a full-time job and am in grad school, so I lift pretty much last thing during the day.

Afterwards, I put down my serving of Surge, some extra BCAA tablets, shower and call it a night. I was curious as to whether it was crucial that I put down another meal after the Surge, or if that was usually recommended moreso to prevent the inevitable crash that comes from Surge.

Point being, I understand that it’s better to have another meal about an hour later, but I was just trying to get a read on how important it was. Any and all advice welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I know some people won’t agree but in your protocol I would suggest BCAA’s during your workout and after. Then instead of Surge have a solid food meal before sleeping…

Anyone?

I don’t think you need to worry about the second meal, as long as you aren’t staying up for a long time before you go to sleep. So, after you have your Surge (which is fine), get to bed or if you’re going to be staying up just have a decent meal before sleeping.

I don’t think it’s important that you stay up just to eat. Maybe swallow some BCAA tabs immediately before you lay down to bed?

Instead of worrying about what might be ideal, focus on what works for you.

Are you happy with your current level of progress?

One approach to consider in your situation would be to use Surge pre or during workout and then Metabolic Drive post-workout since you are going to bed. I would think the slow digesting casein would keep you anabolic longer during your nights rest.

Yhea your going to crash hard core from that Id get in something after the shower pre bed thats going to stop that crash

Shadowmoses, dhuge67, Dedicated- Thanks for the suggestions.

Mod Brian- To this point, I’m relatively well satisfied with my progress. The problem is I’m just coming back from a month off (injury), and have had to adjust to a new lifting schedule.

I used to lift before dinner, so I would lift, have Surge during/after, and then eat dinner shortly thereafter. Circumstances no longer permit that schedule, so now I’m adjusting to this new protocol, and haven’t been on it long enough to gauge objective results. So I just wanted to see if anyone out there either had any ideas or had a similar situation.

Thanks again

Well, see that’s kind of the thing though. Since I’m going straight to sleep after that, I don’t much mind the crash if there’s nothing otherwise detrimental about it.

All the same though, in terms of giving the muscles something more to rebuild themselves, it probably wouldn’t hurt to get something else in. I’ll see if I can’t work in something a couple times this upcoming week, and see how things go.

Thanks

Well, there may be something detrimental about letting your blood sugar swing too much. It might be better to do what one person suggested; take the Surge during your workout and have casein or something slow-digesting after the workout.

yeah dude for sure eat something else. if your last meal is a pwo high in sugar and whey, how is your body going to feed over night? by the time you close you fall asleep, the pwo will have been digested.

Because your body is anabloic for up to 6 hours after your workout, you should really scarf down some more carbs and protein before bedtime.

This is one time in which a pre-bed meal is critical. Even if not for body composition, for health.

Post-workout meals can become slightly catabolic if another protein source is not consumed within an appropriate amount of time. I’ve discussed this here: http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=459463

Compound that with a blood sugar crash and an overnight fast, and it’s really a bad situation to be in.

Alright, seems the jury’s in.

Thanks again guys
