I have the perfect acid test, for your approval. If you can’t do 15 full strict chins, you’re either too fat or too weak.
I’d like to see how many here that are bigger than average and still decent BF, could do 15 strict form chins. I’d say not many
i am 86.5 kg, 10% bf and can do 20-25 chins.
My friend is 75 kg in contest shape, 40 chins, and 90 kg offseason where he can only do 25-30.
Did you not see the part where I said above average?
I’m not a math wiz, but 90kg is only around 185 lbs or so.
Your friend is LIGHT enough to actually pump out 20-30 pullups uninterrupted in the off season.
Your friend expects his pullups performance to improve when he’s dieting down assuming he isn’t losing significant muscle from the upper back, arms, forearms, shoulders, etc.
And this is important. Since he never plans to compete heavier and just plans to oscillate between the same two weights (contest and off season) for the rest of his natural life he has developed a correlation between pullups performance and body fat% for HIMSELF that you decided to use to chart every known bodybuilder competing between 150 and 295 pounds.

This guy is not a fuckin retard. He has an amazing physique, and can lift amazing numbers.
I said this theory may not apply for all as many factors are involved in doing the pullup, like strength endurance, and fast vs slow muscle twitch fibres.
What does having a good physique or lifting amazing numbers have to do with not being a retard? You don’t have to be smart to get strong or build a decent physique…in fact you’re probably better off being stupid. Stupid people wouldn’t over analyze everything.

A friend of mine is a bodybuilder and he uses pullups(palms facing away) as an indicator of bodyfat. He told me if a person can do 20 proper pullups from deadhang, chin clearing the bar, then he is in the 10-12 percentile of bodyfat, if he can do 30 he is in the 5-10 percentile, and 40 is what he always goes for come competition time.
he is 5’10 and competes at 175 pounds.
I think pullups are a good indicator of bodyfat(think about it when you do 30 pullups in a row, youll look good!), but i think some other factors come into play, like strength endurance and type of muscle fibres.

Discuss? That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard.
Give the guy a break. In an article not that long ago, didn’t one of the authors note a correlation between the number of pullups an athelete could do and how low his/her 100m time is? That makes a whole lot of sense too, huh? I didn’t see anyone jumping all over him for that one. Kudos to the guy for finding a way to evaluate his progress that worked for him. Though I’d tend to think taking a look in the mirror might be a bit quicker and easier that banging out a set of 40 pullups to see if I’m ready for a show.
