I read about that. Apparently Rockstar is interested in the Wii or something and Nintendo wants more mature games on their systems. I read it like a week ago, so I can’t really remember it.
Several weeks ago, the price of the Wii was announced to be under $250. Around the fourteenth, they held a series of conferences or whatever. They announced the price, release date and that the system would include a pack-in, “game.”
The price is $249.95. The release date is November 19th. The game is Wii Sports, which is more like a compilation of small mini games.
I used to be a HUGE ps3 fan, thanks to GTA,but then X box hit the market.
I liked the original X box because the games seemed like pc games-especially the shooting games.
Playstation just doesn’t have fun games anymore.
I love action games and X box 360 has that for me.
Fuck final fantasy and those sissy games that are made for little girls and boys who haven’t come out of the closet to their parents yet.
I just think there won’t be much of a difference between an X box 360 and ps3.
The only good shooting game I can think of thats on ps3 is killzone 2.
Thats it.
I think the X box 360 has way better games.
Halo 3,elder scrolls oblivion, gears of war, call of duty 3,saint whatever.
The fact of the matter is sony is CRYING.
They’re afraid of HALO 3.
When halo 3 hits stores the X box 360 will, once again, sell like crazy.
Sony has no games like halo 2-3.
Not even final fantasy can compete.
In other words,they’re fucked.
I don’t really like new games. I don’t like what’s happened to gaming in general. I have friends that have newer systems, and that’s really all the “next generation” gaming I need.
To think Nintendo used to have a majority of the market, but that was ages ago. They aren’t stupid. So rather than trying to be like everybody else, they’re trying to innovate.
It’s worth a shot. My Smash Bros for N64 still works, so I have no reason to upgrade. Video gaming systems are a huge investment, and I’m just too poor for it.
Guys I watch a lot of G4 and saw E3,the PS3 is going to(until they “slash” prices in the USA)come out around $450-$600 last I heard.
Also since they are going to only use Blu-Ray discs for their games, and that technology is still new,its expensive.A brand new PS3 game will be between $80-$100.I don’t even glance at nintindo anymore…I bought a N64 so I could play zelda…and thats what I use it for, zelda…nothing else.
I have a PS and its “ok”,there are a few RPGS I like(most have never played them, which is sad, they pwn)and that’s about it.So mathmatically the 360 is looking better and better.I have one and it may have some glitches, but I can replace w/e I need for less money then a PS3.
Now,if you are considering who has more games, you need to consider that quite a bit of the 360’s games are fairly long and a lot of those are RPGS.Microsoft has also been busy buying up contracts to quite a few companies.
They know they dont have much selection and are working quickly to fix that. And I don’t care what anyone says, right now(this includes the PS3,I saw some demos…not a big improvement from the PS2)nothing can match the graphics engine that the Xbox 360 has,and since its new we havent seen what it is fully capable. If you’d like to see some of its potential then go here-http://masseffect.bioware.com/ -and look at the vids…its pretty freakin sweet.

PS3 games can’t compete in sales with Halo??? From numbers I have seen on websites (I’ll admit they could be off) Halo2 sold ~8 million copies, Halo ~7 million, with splinter cell coming in 3rd for the xbox with a whopping 3 million. Now Gran Turismo 3 ~14 million, GT4 ~10 million, FFX ~8 million, MGS2 ~7 million.
Ohh my god… damn your right, nothing has the selling power of the invincilbe halo… Nintendo’s franchises can crush both PS and XBOX with Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Smashbros, Mario kart…

No fun games? Have you ever played God of War? What about Devil May Cry? Resident Evil 4? WTF? And no games that sell like Halo? Halo is ALL the X-Box had, and the main reason it didn’t tank. Sony has a lot more than just one big-assed franchise. The games I mentioned, the sissy FF rpg’s, Tekken, that’s all I can think at the moment. The X-Box has always had a hardware advantage, as well as better on-line play. It seems at least the hardware advantage is gone, but like PGA said, I think X-Box live will still be king. It’s really too early to call anything, except what you are going to buy. The 360 still doesn’t have any solid blockbuster games, although some are pretty fun. The other one look badass, but they will need to be played to se if they live up to the graphics.

again, you can buy a 360 and a wii together and still be cheaper than the ps3…
Yeah, you can buy the waste-of-money base 360 and a Wii. That’s really not going to make much difference to someone who wants a PS3. Parents, it will, though.
The ps3 is a powerhouse. Its number crunching power is killing wii and is superior to x360. It also ships with linux, whith all its posibillities. While waiting for the blue ray, it has stolen some features from the others (Online playing, movement sensors…).
That said, it has a very stiff price, making parents think twice about buying it for their kids. More importantly, they have really messed up with the blue ray. They just can’t make dual layers work outside the lab. Currently HD-DVD got more storage then a BR (25 vs 30GB). I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets even more delayed. It won’t come near europe before mars. With PS 1&2 they were always first, getting exclusive contracts with the best game developers. Now microsoft is in that role. It’s really hard to tell the outcome.
I think wii will do quite well. Download of old games, more active game play (imagine sword fights :), low price, available everywhere before christmas.
Crap, now I need to save money for:
x360 to play exclusive pro evolution 6
wii since it looks so fun
ps3 for the graphics cruncher, metal gear and as a high power linux box.

Jared, you’ll be able to download Nintendo’s entire library of NES, SNES and Nintendo 64 games. Of course there will be a fee but thats a major selling point for me.
Yeah, but emulators and roms on PC alredy allow you to do this, and allow some customization, which is cool. Heck, they even sell Intellivision emulator packs.
I’ve got all that already on my modded Xbox. I’ve got a NES emulator, a SNES emulator, a port of the MAME arcade emulator. I can play all my childhood favorites (Tempest, Joust, Pac-Man, all the Marios, etc.) from the same machine. I can also copy my Xbox DVDs to the hard disk and enjoy 5-10 seconds load times while saving wear and tear on my originals. Being able to reboot from the controller turns out to be a killer feature. No more swinging out of the Lazy-Boy to switch from game to game. I’ve also got movies, music and pictures on that thing and can stream content from other PCs in the house.
I wish one of the 3 next-gen consoles would take a good look at a modded Xbox 1 with Xbox Media Center and a large hard disk installed, and try to replicate it as close as legally possible… that thing is the coolest thing I’ve ever plugged on a TV.

Come on guys, these fanboys rants are ridiculous. Both PS2 and Xbox have great game franchises. Sony sold a shitload more machines than MS did, so it’s no wonder they’ve got more games for it and move more copies.
As for the Xbox having only Halo, I’d like to mention Far Cry, Dead or Alive, MechAssault, Forza, Project Gotham Racing and Ninja Gaiden Black as other standout, exclusive (AFAIK) titles available for it. Did MS sell more of those than Sony? No. The only place where MS has a clear lead is with Xbox Live, the online component of Xbox gaming. Each platform has advantages and each has it’s fans. But for anyone to claim that either system sucks or has only one good game is laughable.

One thing to keep in mind is that many titles are developed as multi-platform titles. One of the problem with doing that is that developers target the least powerful platform (in this generation’s case, the Wii) so that gameplay remains similar on every platform.
So you might have exclusive Sony titles who really take advantage of the power of the PS3 (and I can’t wait to see what one of those will be like), but a lot of A-Titles will probably end up quite similar on all three platforms.

Those are generally inferior to the actual game itself. And it’s more difficult to get them on the TV screen.

For the good emulators, they are identical to the game itself, because they run the actual ROM of the game. An emulator is not a recreation of the game, it’s a recreation of the machine that runs the game. With the MAME arcade emulator, you need a key that allows you to insert quarters into the machine, so that you can start the game.
As for getting it on a TV screen, yes, it can be a pain if you’re on a PC.
The PS3 will be $500 and $600 EVERYWHERE outside of Japan. The $500 version will be $440 (USD) in Japan.
The PS3 will be IMPOSSIBLE to get before the end of the year if you did not prepurchase it 4 months ago when prepurchases were started. There will only be 2 million PS3’s for the US and Japan this year.
I will have 5 and you can pick up one on Ebay for a starting price of $1500

This used to be true of building games to the weakest platform, but for the past few years each platform has been getting games to thier own strengths. The best example is the new NHL 07, for the PS2 is completly differant from the 360/PC version. And it goes beyond just mere graphiscs, the controls and capabilities of the player control differs system to system. And honestly that differance is only going to get bigger between 360/PS3 and the Wii, with the Wii lagging behind. The gameplay between the 360 and PS3 will be very similar and that part will come down to which controller you like. Personally I still havent decided between the 360 or PS3 or even just upgrading my PC and playing my games on it.

From the reviews I’ve read (for example, this one: NHL 07 Review - IGN ), the NHL 07 game for the PS2 is basically the same as the NHL 06 with minor tweaks and additions. I hardly call that taking advantage of the PS2’s strenght. If that’s the best example you can find, I rest my case.
What your example highlights is that the game on the 360 and PC have been improved, which is to be expected since the available hardware is vastly more powerful. But for same-gen console games, the similarities far outnumbers any differences.
I don’t recall many multi-platform A-titles differing significantly from one console to another. Soul Calibur II is similar enough that I can kick my friend’s butt on his PS2 even though I usually play on my Xbox. Same with GTA: It’s extremely similar on the Xbox and PS2. Sometimes the Xbox gets revamped graphics, which is nice, but not the norm. Sometimes it gets a little more content, such as with Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance which is basically Sons of Liberty with added VR missions. Again, not the norm. I’m not aware of any A-list game that came out on the Xbox before it went to PS2 (wouldn’t make much sense economically) but I guess the same thing would happen (ie, more content to get those who’ve already played the game elsewhere to buy it again.)
Of course, since the new generations consoles are further apart hardware-wise, maybe we’ll see less of this cookie-cutter game development. But business being what it is, I won’t be holding my breath.
