PS3 or Wii?

what im saying prof is that you can buy 2 of the nextgen systems for the price of one. Chill the fuck out.
I understand that, but I am sure I am not alone in thinking that if it is really worth the cash (as in if Blue Ray truly catches on and becomes the next big thing) the higher price is LESS important than if the machine is worth it. I like Playstation and have always had one since they started making them. Buying a Wii just to play games I grew up with (mind you, I wasn’t exactly a couch potato growing up) isn’t enough of a selling point. It might be to those of you still in college whose dorms are like frat houses, but not to those of us who have graduated already. The “remote control” style of their joy stick just seems gimmicky to me. I am active enough. I don’t to pretend like I’m swinging a tennis racket at thin air. Maybe if they upgrade to 3D virtual reality, THEN that will make more sense.

The only real selling point to me about the Wii is the internet capabilities from the tv set. I played the hell out of Mario Brothers when it first came out (when I was 5 feet tall)…but I just can’t see myself really getting back into games like that as if it means something.

Halo just isn’t enough of a selling point for me to change systems. I don’t play on line and doubt I could find the time to start.

By the time I can actually buy a PS3 (which probably won’t be until Spring), I should know what the deal is.

I personally think XBox screwed some people over royally by releasing a product when they did with SO many bugs in it that many nearly blew up. That doesn’t make me consider them a great company with a great product.

PRof X… this isn’t meant to be offensive, but i’m just curious how you (as a doctor) have so much free time?? For example through your posts, it seems like you paly video games, workout, watch lots of TV, movies etc… and post om T-Nation. Most doctors i know don’t have nearly this much free time… what kind of doctor are you excatly?

There aren’t many bugs just the over heating. None have blown up, some did overheat and stop working. Thats as bad as it is fault wise. The overheating is usually by people that dont allow its to vent properly. They stuff it in their entartainment center and the heat has nowhere to go. So the console overheats. Their return rate is under 4%. Thats not bad for a new product. The PS2 fault rate is slightly above that. The first Xbox is a different story though. MS seems to have learned form their mistakes there.

They are making good though by extending the warranty and fixing faulty ones for free.

You need to learn to read better. First, I have specifically written that I do NOT watch much tv at all which is why any shows I do watch I buy in DVD. I have also written that I do NOT have much time to play video games except on weekends, if that. Besides, I am not “most doctors”. I am in the military and my hours are set throughout the week unless I am on call.

That means you a) can’t comprehend what you read, and b)need to stay out of my personal business.

I give them credit for that. I will still wait to see what problems or benefits the PS3 has before making any decision.

ok whatever dude… way to be a douchebag.

Glad to be of service. I’ll try even harder next time.

just wondering did you have to go through the same length of schooling to be an army doc? did you go to a trad. medcshool, or did you go through a military U med program?

Is this thread “ask for Prof X’s resume” or “PS3 or Wii”? No one on this forum needs to know anything about my position, education or location. You could have had the common sense to send a private message if this info was important to you, but you have decided to jump into a thread about video games to find out details about me.

It is none of your business.

Wait, let me type that again:

It is none of your business.

Had you had the courtesy and sense to ask privately you would have probably gotten that info. Congrats on being retarded.

Are you fucking kidding me? Shit, I built my girlfriend a computer a bit more powerful graphically than a PS2 for $300. Upgrading to a level that would be easily comperable to a PS3/360 would cost ~250, maybe a bit more when DX10 hardware hits the market with Vista. Does all the multitasking of those things, too, with a lot more hard drive space. If Blue Ray does take off, there’s another $30 for a compatable drive. I’ve never understood why people got so into console gaming when PC gaming is so much more economical and just as much fun. Plugging in to a TV is easy, too. You just take an S-Video cable and… plug it in.

If I were to buy a console these days, it’d probably be the Wii (WHEEEE!!!) just for its attempt at creativity.

I will have 5 and you can pick up one on Ebay for a starting price of $1500 :-)
Good show

LOL someones ultra sensitive…hiding something there? you’d think that someone with an MD would be proud to reveal his credentials/education etc…

I was just asaking b/c i’m thinking about applying to medical school and the army thing sounds neat. But again thanks for being a duochebag.

I hear they require you to know how to spell “asking”. Capitalizing your “I”'s couldn’t hurt either. In fact, maybe you should just get someone else to write that essay for you.

No fun games? Have you ever played God of War? What about Devil May Cry? Resident Evil 4? WTF? And no games that sell like Halo? Halo is ALL the X-Box had, and the main reason it didn’t tank.

Come on guys, these fanboys rants are ridiculous. Both PS2 and Xbox have great game franchises. Sony sold a shitload more machines than MS did, so it’s no wonder they’ve got more games for it and move more copies.
I was mainly referring to the past. As the years went by, things changed. Halo IS what saved the X-Box from Console Heaven. I’m no fanboy. If I was, I wouldn’t have acknowkledged the Box’s abilities, only said, “It’s the size of a suitcase, it sux.The controllers suck, and they’re too big.” As far as what was quoted, I only responded to the ridiculous idea that Sony has nothing that can touch Halo.
As far as the rest goes, you make some pretty good points. I like both systems, but I am going stay loyal to Sony, for now. They better not fuck this up, or thing will get bad. The X-Box has games I like(like HALO), and when a multiplat game comes out, the Box version is usually the best.
Thhis should be interesting, as the Playstation will lose it’s advantage of backwards-compatibility, which is pretty enticing when you have a big-assed stack of old games. As I said before, the difference in the games, graphics,[i]something[/] had better be noticeable with the price. I hate the boomerang controllers, though. What the Hell was wrong with the old ones?
Kratos wrote:

The whole system looks like they made it for adults and not little kids. As long as it handles the same, I really don’t see it making that much of a difference. It isn’t really that different and all of the buttons are still in the same place.

ok, so after seeing this trailer I might have to get a PS3:

wow.

I want a Wii Zelda Metroid and Mario the trifecta of gaming

No this is the new controller:

It has bluetooth (wireless), is lighter and has motion sensing (not in every direction like the Wii though). They cancelled the boomerang concept.

Looks nice - just about what Oblivion looks like on the highest graphics settings in terms of environment, except the White Knight PC’s and NPC’s looked a bit… cartoony. I’m sure that was on purpose for that RPG style, but I wouldn’t have made the choice to skimp on the main character polygon count. That look should be about standard when coders get good at utilizing the hardware on 360 and the PS3, though, so I wouldn’t be swayed to the PS3 just by that trailer.

I hope you’re right, but recent news might indicate otherwise:

So you’d be at 550$ total. You can get an XBox 360 Premium for less than 400$.

That’s a few years off. Have a look at the prices of HDDVD and BlueRay players currently available, it’s all in the hundreds range.

That’s because it’s not.

Between the anti-piracy crap that some games try to install on your PC, the incompatible drivers, the updates, the patches, dicking around with the firewall, turning off background updates from MS, stopping the bittorrent client in the background, etc. playing on a PC can be quite a pain.

With a console, you put the DVD in, you sit in your EZ chair and you’re playing within 30 seconds of entering the room.

None of my computers have an S-video output…
