I would not use the price point of Sony as some determining factor over “superior” hardware in this debate. Sony is certainly going with some expensive hardware with the Blu-ray DVDs, but given that it has not even been settled out yet what will be the HD format of choice, I am not sold.
It all comes down to a few things:
Who has the best games. You can have all the processing horsepower in the world and if no one unleashes it, it’s pretty pointless.
In terms of all the nice doo-dads (HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, etc.) it depends on whether people see it as a true value add for the price. I might look at a movie played on my XBox 360, for instance, and then see one played on the HD-DVD they have out for it now for $150 more and think, “Damn, that barely recognizable shift in picture quality ain’t worth 150 beans.”
PS2 had the larger software library because it had the head start. With that not being the case now, it’s hard to say who will win out.
I think the Wii will have a certain audience to it, but I honestly think it will end up being more like the Macs of gaming system - some hard core devoted fans, but never really the same level of player at the table as Microsoft or Sony.
Good post. I should have been less vague, as I don’t go by only the price. I should have said BETTER be, but if any of the reports are true, it will be. And like you said, if it’s untapped, it won’t matter, but Sony already has a well-established list of hits and sequels, whereas X-Box really doesn’t, as I stated in a previous post. Dead-on about the Wii, I think the same thing. Just like the Gamecube.

And GTA will have extra content on the 360.
Why would they exclude extra content for the PS3?
They signed a contract with MS to produce episodic content for the 360.
Who cares? MS still has to beat out the sales that the FINAL FANTASY fanboys, the Tekken freaks, the God of War worshippers(such as myself)AND Devil May Cry fans will produce. MS has no properties that produce anywhere near that much fanboyism, save Halo, and maybe a couple others. X-Box has not really brought much to the table in terms of blockbusters. If not for Halo, it would have sunk faster than the Jaguar.
Ahh yes… you have called? The way I see it is which do I want to play more FFXIII, MGS4, Devil may cry, or Metroid, SSBM:M, Super Mario, Zelda… Damn this is tight… okay I’ll probably get both PS3 and Wii.
I don’t really like any XBOX exclusive games besides Halo, and GTA puts me to sleep I don’t understand why people like it so much.

It depends on what you expect to get out of your system, the new Wii is more about having people over to play games and playing a ton of old-school games. The PS3 is more of an entertainment center and I guess it will be quite powerful. I have a xbox 360 and I like it but I will still be picking up a Wii because of the social aspect.
It’s too late online gaming has ruined that… sniff sniff. I remeber the best video games had ever been was when we had 4-10 people over at a friends house playing Mario Party, Smash Bros, Gauntlet, 007,and alot more good old 4 player N64 and Gamecube games.

Xbox Live. The only time I play games is online. I rarely play offline. If you want to game online the 360 is where its at.
The future of Sony rides on the PS3, and with such a ridiculous price, my bet is so long.
The Nunchuk for the Wii is gonna have a lot of creative uses, and it should be a lot of fun. While I stopped playing console games a while ago, all my gaming freak friends plan on buying a Wii and not a PS3. They couldn’t afford the PS3 anyway, but still.

Fat kids wont be able to play the Wii. They’ll get winded swinging the controler around for 5 minutes.
Really. The whole idea with that was to at least get them moving while playing games. I say parents need to get them out from in front of the TV.
Good point on online play, but I think Sony would address that and upgrade it’s online game. I like playing online, but I get tired of the jackassery that runs rampant, like the cheaters, bonehead loudmouths, and the dumbasses who like to kill their own teammates to fuck up the game. Other than that, online play rocks.

I dont think Sony will ever match Live. Its done EXTREMELY well. I have almost no complaints about it. Its the reason I still game.
I dont really deal with many idiots online. I have a core set of people I play with. Once in a while I’ll go rogue and enter games randomly. If the room sucks I bounce and send negative feedback all over the place.
Parents need to take them to play basketball, do gymnastics, take up a martial art, get them into dancing or acting, socialize them. Games have their place dont get me wrong but more kids need to spend time in the fresh air…
I type this as I’m reading Canterbury Tales for my DAMN Major Works of English and American Literature class at 10:45 on a Friday night. Woe is me!
I think Sony and MS are bringing HD too soon. Aren’t HDTVs only owned by less than %20 of American households?
I’d think of getting a PS3 if Sony was not trying to shovel Blue Ray down our throats. That’s a huge reason for the price of the PS3. And if Blue Ray doesn’t take off, then my money is wasted? Pass.
The 360 doesn’t seem like a bad deal. It will definitely get another Halo, there’s no way MS will not push out that money maker. Dead Rising looks like a great game, too. If more games
With the Wii, you will not be able to download many games. The system will launch with a library of thirty classic games, and one more will be added every three days. On the bright side, the games are not from just Nintendo systems, but also Sega systems. Prices are bit high for old games. A list of Virtual Console games can be found here:
Anyone interested in online gaming may want to avoid the Wii, at least until a price drop. Nintendo has not given to third parties any information about their system for online gaming. The first online Wii game will be a Smash Bros, a fighting game, or Pokemon

Dead Rising’s great, just a little hard. Lots of fun, especially if you kill that damn clown.
I agree, thay are rushing with the HD, as well as the Blu-Ray. It had better be a damned noticeable difference.

Jared, you’ll be able to download Nintendo’s entire library of NES, SNES and Nintendo 64 games. Of course there will be a fee but thats a major selling point for me.
Yeah, but emulators and roms on PC alredy allow you to do this, and allow some customization, which is cool. Heck, they even sell Intellivision emulator packs.
i am going with the Wii. I have seen the shit the PS3 has, sure, they might have some exlusive titles, but I will be able to get 80% of their games on PC anyways.
The Wii just looks like it will be more FUN. I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, and to be honest, the last thing I want to buy is a typical gaming system with more bells and whistles on it.
I was going to go with a PS3 but not impressed with Sony recently. Now i’m leaning twds the Wii also. Here are a few interesting points:
-MS is not stupid. Rumor has it that they will schedule a price drop of their XBOX 360s as soon as the PS3 hits the market;
-Halo 3 will come out eventually for the 360;
-There is even a report saying that Nintendo is interested in having the game GTA on their system and other more mature titles.
-Price of the Wii for the US is at most “250”. Its not impossible that they lower it at the last minute like they did for the GameCube. Rumor has it that they are waiting to see if MS will do a price drop on their 360s
Sorry no references but i found all this searching the web.

Depends what you mean by ‘best’ though, surely?
Graphics-wise, of the two, it has to be the PS3.
If it’s money-wise, the only corner Nintendo have on the gaming market these days is that they are cheaper than everything else.
Personally, the Wii looks gimmicky to me - from the name to the ‘new style’ controller. Nintendo can’t match the graphics put out by Sony or Microsoft, so they resort to gimmicky things. The Wii might keep you or your kids entertained for an afternoon, but you’ll want your PS or your XBOX when you want a real gaming experience.
A real gaming experience? So that’s yesterday’s Final fantasy 7 but with better graphics, crappier gameplay, and a shittier story because its just a crappy spinoff? No thanks, I already played that on the PS2.
Games need to evolve. The PS2 was a great system with great games (except a few of course). Developers need to become more creative to make games that are fun. And the wii is trying to do that. Sure the PS3 can do that as well, but all I’ve seen are last gen shoot 'em ups and fighters. OOH except for portal. THAT looks sweet.
PS3 hands down. Although I wish they wouldnt try adding all the extra crap onto it, what was it Bluechip or something. Who cares! Give me my damn rpg’s and Ill be fine-even with the fat 600 bucks for it.
Wii…nah. Whenever I read anything about Wii they always have the red overalled plumber and his stupid mushrooms with him. Or, what, Yogi? Making a game for yogi or something? Not for me, Ive played with those characters for too long now to enjoy them anymore. Though that DS game they had was semi-good. PS3.
