Protein Shake During Workout?

Some people use a protein shake (or maybe its one of Biotest’s fine energy/workout supplements) during their workout like say 1/2 way through. I’ve been thinking about doing that myself but I want to weigh the pros and cons.

Whats the benefit of using a shake during your workout besides time (i live like 30seconds away from my gym) and i guess an energy boost? Do you take a shake after your workout too? Does it noticeably improve your performance?

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated

pros: more protien/calories
cons: body uses energy to digest it, cramps, puking

I wouldn’t, but if you can stomache it, go for it.

I use to drink a whey shake while I lifted but after trying a few different things I found I really like the combo of Surge pre/post wo and some BCAA during. If I was rich I’d probobly do 2 scoops Surge before and after but untill i win the lottery ill stick to 1 scoop each. Experiment, everyone is different gota find what works for you.

Just sip it continually during the workout instead of water.

I also agree that everyone is different. I always hear people say never eat a solid meal right before working out but I can’t put in a decent workout unless I have something in my stomach. I eat about 80g worth of carbs from oatmeal and 30g worth of protein from eggs right before I workout. During my workouts, I sip on a protein(25g) and dextrose(75g) shake.

For postworkout, I drink something similar except with added creatine, ALA, and BCAA. Never had bloating problems whatsoever. My workouts are about 2 hours long mainly because I take long rest periods and I don’t feel any decrease energy level as long as I rest long enough.

depending upon your goals and budget it can be an easy way to ensure you’re not breaking down muscle tissue for energy during a workout.

at $2/serving, I haven’t quite gone to the approach of one serving Surge during and post, I usually just do PWO

I do whey+ water pre/upon waking, then start my workout right away.

My theory behind this is that as the protein is being absorbed into my body during my workout and is there to repair also after im done.

I may be wrong but it works for me, also something besides just plain water so it helps with the fast from overnight.

I think the whey i have should be absorbed in 30 min or so since its just water+whey on empty stomach and my workouts are around 40-45 min long
