Protein problems?

Hello T men. after re-reading James Wilson’s T-mag article “Fuel for thought”, i finally decided to post a question thats been on my mind…for the past couple months my protein intake has been very high at about 250 grams sometimes going as high as 325 depending on cycles in my diet…Most of the time though, it is at 250 grams. This is about 1.5 grams per lb since i weigh 170-175(5’9) Now since i was dieting I figure I needed this much protein…but fat loss was slow at times leading me to belive it was a bit o an excess…Now I had been eating massively before this so protein was high before that. I’m easing into a mass phase now and cals are at about 2400 a day. Carbs are at 175 grams, protein 250, fat- 75…fats are from flax canola fish and small amounts from meats…carbs are from oats ,high fiber fruits, and lowfat granola(mostly oats). protein from chicken, turkey, tuna Advanced Protein, and Muscle Milk. The problem is that I look incredibly smooth right out the chute on this phase…could it be excess protein with the growing intake of the other nutrients? I would drop my protein intake …but have i screwed myself by keeping protein up so high for so long…will i lose muscle by dropping intake ? I’m worried my body has become acclimated to such an intake…I have a lot of calories to go to start growing and am just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this …or might ahve a clue to whats up? thanks, Mike

I would not “ease” into Massive Eating but go balls to the wall. You are just wasting your time. 2400 is probably around or even below your maintenance. Up the cals according to ME principles. No, your slightly higher protein intake has nothing to do with what you are experiencing right now.

Thanks Sasa…I don’t want to get fat though.its just that i’m wondering what it coud be that is causing that…and would i ever be able to lowr my protein to 180 grams again, without seeing muscle loss…Mike

“Being smooth” is very subjective state. I bet it is in fact water retention that can be caused by anything, from changes in sodium intake to food allergies, higher stress levels, even artificial sweeteners, you name it - it can be…but it certainly does not have anything to do with your current protein intake - don’t sweat it!
