Berardi does a great job of laying out a complete analysis of the benefits of protein in the cover story for Planet Muscle, and and analyzes some Lemon studies on requirements. it’s an excerpt from the Sports Supplement Encyclopedia.
JC, nobody’s saying that eating a lot of protein lets you eat crap for the rest of your caloric intake. I’d hope that nobody actually thinks that way. Having said that, I’d tend to agree with people who recommend 1-1.5 grams per lb. of body weight. I’ve done the higher range, done lower, and now this is right where I’m at. In terms of cost, efficacy, and convenience, this is probably the best range for most people not on anything at the time.
Its well known that the body will adapt to any given level of calories and macronutrients. Be it high or low and will rev up efficiancy and utilization of protein and carbs. Have you ever cut carbs while attempting to get lean and noticed your still performing well, despite all those recommendations that you need X amount of glycogen. Thats because their are layered pools of glycogen that become increasingly difficult to deplete, and when you do bring carbs back in at specific times they bring pre existing glycogen levels back to normal with even minimal amounts of carbs. Also studies have shown that eating your carbs across 1 meal or 8 shows not greater level of glycogen resinthesis. Having the guts to venture off the percieved path with my newly found experiences and the beginings of protein pulse studies etc we can see that the body will become more efficient at utilizating protein when it is timed accordingly to activity and not just every 3 hour intervals just like carbs. Why not adapt your body to a lower calorie level so a hypercaloric level will be easier achieved and glycogen and protein will be better preserved? In case you didn’t know the more you eat the more free radicals you produce and the faster you accelerate the aging process. This won’t slow down with mere antioxidant use. This small fact does matter to me since I see so many bodybuilders who look 5 to 10 years older than they are despite so called balanced eating habbits. I want everyone to realize that I am specifically talking about the natural lifter, with no enhancements. However if the natural lifter is 10% BF or leaner and their only goal is to gain weight than eating more protein is helpful to somedegree, but not the determining factor in the rate of muscle hypertrophy. Even in that scenario I think higher carbs to protein ratio would bring more benefit. To the lifter whom is over 10-12%BF I think adjustin gto a lower calorie and macronutrient level will allow for better utilization of nutrients and easier bodyfat maintence. Just to let you know I walk the walk, over my 10 yrs of lifting I have never used roids or androgen, I have tasted a 315 powerclean, 550 deadlift, I don’t exclusively powerlift anymore but can call on those numbers pretty quickly if thats what I want. I am 5’8" 10%BF 200lbs. I never consume more than 200g of protein any more and sometimes only 150 if the day ended up that way. I have gone the 300-400g route and never saw any benefit, when I wanted to really put on size carbs allways mattered more than protein. Don’t be afraid to challenge what you have been doing all along. I am not a peta., orgainic
ok, ok, ok… i went long enough without responding to this post. …the first 6 months of your life what did you live on ??? Protein and very little carbs. And you grew like a weed too, didn’t you ?? (meant in jest)
You should do some reading on the composition of human milk/formula
Usually ~1.0g/100ml protein
3.3-4.5g fat/100ml and
approximately 7.8g/100ml LACTOSE
So really the predominant sources of energy from milk is Carbohydrate and FAT

I don’t think protein is overrated, but some people are probably taking in too much. I weigh 240 and am on 1.5g test per week. I take in 300g/day protein. At least half of that is from a good quality whey isolate PP. I could double my test, start taking copious amounts of GH, IGF-1 and insulin, and I still wouldn’t need to up my protein any more. I don’t care how big you are or how much drugs you’re using, 1.5g/lb BW is plenty, and if you’re relying on high quality PP like me, you probably only need 1g/lb BW.
I just want to hear more from charles smithey
WTF man biotest said nothing on this thread, its just consumers talkin amongst themselves. So get the facts straight before you dissuade people from getting the best information and best supplements available!
What the flying fuck did Smithey just attempt to say???
Joe Wieder got drunk again and used his Charles Smithey penname
