Protein & Gas

I mix it with hot water to make a warm pudding, and throw on a little salt.

Nice… thanks for the input

An easy way to remedy this problem is to check the ingredients label on your protein powders. If you are drinking anything other than Whey Protein Isolate…that’s probably the culprit…although Micellar Casein doesn’t seem to cause me any problems so that might be safe as well. I am lactose intolerant but I mix my protein shakes with Lactaid milk[or water], which has the lactase enzyme added to break the lactose down into glucose and galactose, which I can tolerate. If you make your shakes with milk, you might want to try the Lactaid milk.

If your protein shake label says “Whey Protein Concentrate”, that could be your problem. Also potential problems are milk protein isolate, calcium caseinate, etc…as others have said, anything derived from milk. I always steer away from Whey Protein Concentrates because not only does it contain lactose, but the quality of the protein is not as good as an isolate and most supplement companies tend to use a lower quality concentrate as well.

But you are most likely right, and it probably IS your protein shakes causing the horrendous gas blasts but the good news is that there are A TON of different kinds of protein powder shakes out there in the market that you should be able to find one that doesn’t cause you anymore hot ass blasts! Ugh, just thinking about some of the awful ones I had back in the day when I unknowingly drank those mega gainer 5000 shakes or just the cheap protein drinks, not knowing those super cheap products used the cheapest ingredients, and how BLOATED and painful my stomach/insides would become, man, I had some painful trial and error!

Good luck and just approach it scientifically: Don’t drink any protein shakes for an entire day or two (don’t worry, your muscles won’t disappear-just make sure you’re eating plenty of protein), then try a new protein powder but being sure to mix it in either water or ONLY lactaid brand milk[or milk that states no lactose on the label], lastly, drink only that protein powder for a day or two and see if your ass explodes or not. If it does, back to the drawing board and toss that protein powder. You’ll find one pretty easily though, I did, you just have to make sure that the only protein source in it is Whey protein Isolate. Yes, you can drink that vegan protein too but I’ve heard from others that not only do many of them taste weird or have a strange consistency, but they can bloat you up and/or give you gas too. WPI is gonna be the easiest to digest while also being the most protein dense, having great mixability, etc. Yes, it also is more expensive $$ than Whey protein concentrate or other low quality protein sources, but as you know, you get what you pay for. And by now I’m sure you’d rather spend a few more bucks rather than being bloated and emitting rank protein farts!

i have been on high proteib diet since 2019 so its only been a few years. My partner have always complain about my fart, but when i am out in public,i will intetionally walk away from people to fart if i am aware i will be farting in thr first place

Isolates without a casein or fat component have a quick gastric emptying rate too… could be that

I’ve known several people including myself who simply take a digestive enzyme with our shakes. One or two capsules if it’s a big shake. I don’t need one on a 20 gram, but 40 I do. Sure, slowing the gastric emptying will help increase the digestion and absorption. So, I agree with adding a bit of solid food when eating the shake also. Either method will help or use both.
