How much protein can your body absorb in 1 hour?
How much can it use? I remember someone telling me in the gym that it can only absorb 40g every 2 hours. I think this is a myth. Because right now I’m taking 70g six times daily, and 40g twice daily. (massive eating) If it can’t be used to build muscle, are the extra protein grams just used as calories to burn?
not entirely sure… Does anyone know if excess protein is bad for you? My friend (who isn’t well-researched swears that too much protein is bad and can clot your blood.

He’s wrong. Do some reading on this site. Protein does not hurt your kidneys, is not toxic to your liver, does not make your fat, will not give you heart disease, etc…Read the protein debate, Berardi articles, and much more on the site.

Yes. They are used as energy just like fat and carbohydrates would be.
Your friend is wrong in the thinking that too much ptotein can hurt you, just as the previous poster said. He is right about the approx. 40 grams of protein every two hours part. Most experts belive that anywhere from 30g to 40g is the maximum absorbed in two hours, depending on the study and person involved.

They are both wrong partially but he is right that that question has been answered a hundred times on this site so a little research will go a long way. Anyway like any macro nutrient too much of it will ultimately be converted to fat so you can and probably are eating too much since you only need .8 grams per per pound of body weight. still it is a good idea to eat a little more than that to ensure that you grow at a rate you are happy with… also there are a lot of factors to do with growth like the kinds of protein you eat and when you eat it… however the good thing about eating too much protein as opposed to any other other macro nutreints is that is protein has the highest thermogenic effect of feeding so you are less likely to become as fat as quickly by eating too much of it.
still excess calories from protein, rather than being absorbed in you small intestine, will pass to you colon where very little will be absorbed and it can make you fart like a mad man so dont eat too much… its better to look lean than fat any day.
also do some research on fats because the right fats are very neccessary to a good training diet and dont listen to your stupid friends. instead do the research because listing to people who dont know what they are talking about is a pretty good way to fall victim to bad trianing and bad eating. dont take my word for it read something.
This question was asked 2 years ago. Why do people go into the archives and respond to shit years old like this?

Yeah-it’s sort of annoying. Someone bumps up a post from ages ago, and you don’t think to look at the original date and respond to it thinking it’s current and relevant.
Well at least the guy finally has his answers and he can move on in life.
The originator of this thread died in September 2004 of - yes - protein toxicity. His blood clotted, he became increasingly obese, and suffered hepatic shutdown as a result of ingesting 1.085g/lb BW.
Take a lesson from a dead man kids: Protein kills!!
