Hi Guys, I’m here to ask for some advice from anyone who uses leg raises as part of their core/abdominal routine. I realise that they’re a great exercise for building overall abdominal and core strength, but I’ve heard so much conflicting advice on proper form, ie do you raise your hips at the end of the exercise or not.
Is there any specific way where i can use them to hit the abdominals more so than the hip flexors? As I feel like they take over towards the end of my sets. Thanks guys!
You can’t really stop the hip flexors from taking over just stop when form breaks down and you stop feeling your abs
Unlike some other muscle groups there really aren’t any benefits in performing ‘cheat’ reps for abs
As DanielDJ pointed out, you can’t totally eliminate overlap between muscles, but what I’ve learned to do is to limit my ROM, so that my legs don’t come all the way down as so many people seem inclined to do. I feel more of a constant stress in my rectus abdominal area, and less tension in the hip flexors with this approach.

I find with certain exercises such as DB rows, abdominal movements etc, it is better to move in a way which works the desired muscle, rather than keep to a strict, codified form
