Prolotherapy, Patella Tendon Tears

Hey guys, started my own thread so i wouldn’t have to hi-jack the other prolo threads.

anyways. got my first treatment to day. Hurt a lot less then i expected! Its a bit “tight” right now, but zero pain, might hurt more tomorrow.

the doctor was also very optimistic that It could be all worked out in only 3 sessions (4-8 weeks apart), maybe less given my excellent blood work (i had done independently 2 months ago), nutrition, flexibility/mobility and the fact that im pretty young (22)

it was a lot different then the videos on youtube of prolo on the knee.
i had far fewer injections, but each one was with a very large gage needle (he refers to it as “swiz-cheesiing”. the injections were only on the patella tendon as the other tendons are in fine condition.

later i just rode a stationary bike.
tomorrow ill ride a bike again and go to the gym and just do some light upper-body training (it my de-load week anyways).

he said that if on wednesday it felt good, that i could do some body-weight squats and VMO activation work and to build each day.

Im planning on having the first heavy squat session of my new program on monday so it will be exactly 7 days after the first treatment which he said would be fine as long as I kept the eccentrics slow and warmed up very carefully.

had my first workout post prolotherapy.

it is my deload week as well so weights were relatively light or even body weight.

KB swings, goblet squats, pull ups, rear foot elevated split squats, dips, standing DB press, val-slide hamstring curls, some biceps and calves at the end. everything for 3 sets of 8-15 with light weights. 60 seconds rest between sets.

my knee felt fine, no pain or even discomfort. actually felt better them my “healthy” leg.

first difficult squat workout will be on Monday.

Subscribed. Good luck man! Did he inject the ACL as well?

Be careful on Monday!!

no, the imaging that showed the tears in the patella tendon showed that my ACL was healthy and stable.

thanks, i did some goblet squats with 24kg KBs and some lunges today with no pain. so i think in another 4 days i will be able to go hard. also mondays program is more high volume with moderate weights, with 3-4 second eccentrics which are good for tendon strength anyways.

Oh ok, I see.

And that sounds great then man. Eccentrics helped me a lot with my knees as well.

leg day went really good, form felt on and the knee didnt hurt at all during. It ached slightly latter that night, but not as much as it used to, and today it feels great.

Everything was 4 second eccentrics so i wasnt bouncing at the bottom of the squats so im sure that helped.

Im feeling very hopeful that my left knee will be close to as strong, or maybe completely equal to the right after another treatment or 2

have had 2 hard leg days, although not really heavy weight, but REALLY high volume.

anyways, my knee feels awesome!

also today i woke up and my left VMO was not sore (its still inhibited obviously) so i used the leg extension machine on just the left let and for the first time in years was able to do so completely pain free and got a killer pump in my left VMO. which was awesome since i never get a pump on the left one.

Im sure just the one treatment of prolo is the main reason!

Awesome! Great to hear you’re having a good response to prolotherapy. I’m sure your knee will continue to improve for the next couple weeks - only 2 weeks have passed from your first session.

exactly, I get another treatment in 15 days. with the way its feeling right now, maybe that will be it. I have another one booked for another month after the next one, but the doc said i can cancel it if the knee feels great.

next treatment in 6 days i think. went pretty frikn heavy on back squat today for 10 sets of 3 and it felt pretty darn good.

I still dont get as sore on the left leg are the right, but im almost getting to thinking that its because of all the extra single leg work and re/pre-hab i have been doing on that side. maybe my left leg is actually more conditioned then my right even though its still a bit smaller.

got my second treatment today. its feeling really heavy and stiff right now as he was a bit more aggressive on it this time around.

I have another appointment for october 1st, but im actually pretty hopeful i might not NEED it. although i would probably go anyways just for piece of mind that its really fully repaired

had my thrid prolo treatment today. the knee has felt very solid ever since the treatments started, i can load the squat more then before with less pain and only mild aching after the workouts.

the divot running down the tendon is also slowly getting shallower after each treatment. I really think ill be able to get my knee to 90-95% after another treatment or 2!

very pleased with the results

just thought i would give an up-date in my situation.

the knee has continued to improve since my 3rd treatment, and i believe it is close to as good as it will ever be. I feel like its 90% as good as the other knee.

I think im done with prolotherapy and for me it was wonderful.

To test it out I plan to use Smolov Jr for front squats starting in December and im very confident that my knee will hold up just fine, and i think thats a pretty good test.

can you describe your pain before you got prolotherapy? Did your patellar tendon hurt to touch it or did it just feel like it made the inside of your knee hurt? I’m trying to figure out whats causing my knee a dull achey feeling for a couple days after leg day.

Because I can’t afford an MRI

mine would be very tender to the touch just on the tip of the patella, when it was really bad i would loose a lot of mobility in the knee and just not be able to bend it much with out pain.

felt hot.

what are they injecting, PRP, IGF ? some of that pain relief might be related to the injection in it self, acupuncture on it’s own works on swelling and makes the body produce pain relieving chemicals[/quote]

just basic dextrose+lidocaine
