Progression on Lunges?

Aye but I don’t get a great leg workout as weight is very low in comparision to on my back.

That would be amazing. I can’t even imagine how wobbly my legs would be after that.
IMO the smith reduces a lot of the stabilising muscles involved in doing a lunge. sorta takes away the purpose of uni lateral leg training. with practice the wobbling will go away.
That’s what I was thinking

I would be lucky to be able to do that, And I used to be an Oly lifter kind of guy too. OH BB stuff is so much harder than I remember it when I try to throw it back in here and there.

My 2 cents…DB walking lunges

  • if you are doing low back intensive heavy leg work (squats, deads) they don’t load up the low back like BB lunges
  • focus on keeping you scapulae retracted; it will help keep your chest high and your upper-body close to vertical
  • don’t be afraid to lower the reps to build muscle (4-6 or so)
  • long strides for glute/hams
  • short strides for quad emphasis
  • I prefer going low enough that my back knee touches the floor

I think the link was posted in a thread not long ago. Anyway, you might find some lunge variety that will interest you. You may also climb the “pain ladder”. I did overhead BB forward lunges two days ago (last set with 100 lbs), pretty kewl exercise if you ask me.

Thanks for the input. I think I will probably start with stationary for a SHORT time, then move to walking soon after.

and GREAT to see another Atlantic Canadian around here. I am from Fredericton, where are you from?

Freddy-town…cool! I`m from up Cape Breton way.

And just on the lunge thing, I always found forward lunges harder on my knees than reverse lunges. And, walking work best overall for me but none are really a big staple exercise…more of a finisher at the end of leg day if the mood strikes me.
