Could you send me the info as well?
WhiteFlash wrote:All of that is my fault. It’s not 'cause my dad was an asshole or my mom coddled me too much, or that I had some life altering experience as a kid that made me apathetic. It’s 'cause I’m fucking lazy and I don’t like conforming to other peoples “rules”. The facts are that unless you invent something like silent velcro you’re gonna have to conform to others. The world doesn’t revolve around you, you live in it.

I don’t know how old you are Waylander, but I think you’re in your early 20’s. Do whatever you can to right the ship 'cause you DO NOT want to wake up at damn near 30 wondering what the fuck you’re gonna do. Find something that captures your interest and run with it. …whatever you find make sure you’re passionate about it. The only thing worse than bullshitting through life is settling.
Damn whiteflash, that first part was as if I had written it myself. You said exactly what I’ve always thought.

Re figuring out what to do in life, good luck with that. I’m 35 and still not sure what I want to do. See my post from June about leaving teaching.

(Weird. As I was typing this, I got what seems like the 100th telemarketing/bloomberg campaign/charity phone call from an 800/877 number these past few weeks. So after procrastinating for YEARS, I stopped typing and enrolled in the Do Not Call list)

OP: which I had advice for you, but unfortunately I don’t. I do think it is imp’t as whiteflash said to find something you like to do b/c that should naturally motivate you, thus avoiding procrastination.

disorganisation and procrastination are two symptoms of ADD. I’m not saying you have ADD if you procrastinate, but some of the people who procrastinate chronically find out that it was due to ADD. It may be worthwhile to explore this possibility so you can get it treated, just in case.

I used to be a pretty big procrastinator too, but my only saving grace was that some things I considered things that HAD to be done… so they got done…eventually. Now how much of a procrastinator I am scales with how long it’s been since a nice long break… but I digress.

The thing that got me motivated was essentially: watching myself get screwed in the ass for being a lazy fuck. It was the worst thing ever to be so deeply disappointed in myself (you know how they say it’s worse when your parents say, “I’m disappointed in you,” rather than flipping out? Same thing).

I think it really takes some kind of catalyst to change how much of a procrastinator you are. I don’t think it’s something you can break through sheer willpower. If it is, then holy shit you’re incredible.

tl;dr find something to motivate you; preferably something that’ll haunt you for a while, lol.

How is that sad? It is realistic. I am a little tired of the whole “get a job you LOVE and don’t worry about the money” bullshit that gets spewed to every college kid.
Oh, agreed. 1000x agreed. It’s so good to actually hear someone else say that. I’ve had some jobs that I didn’t care for but I made enough money to actually pursue the things I love.

Being poor sucks balls. It doesn’t matter how much you love your job, if it makes you poor for the rest of your life, it sucks.

Edit: Fuck, I didn’t realize this was an old thread.

Doesn’t matter. Some of the younger members need to hear this as many times as possible.

Damnit. I, too, did not realize I helped necro a thread. Fuhhh

Good thread so far

Hi, my name is Waylander and I’m a Procrastinator.

Haha. Ok, I really need to break this habit. I am fucking everything up, relationships, grades, whatever, because I procrastinate and seem to be generally apathetic, and it pisses me off. I never used to be this way either. For several years I went to a very advanced school, one which you had to be IQ tested and have some weird ass social aptitude test, and score well in both to even enter the school.

I thrived in this environment and did very well, but after 4 years my family had to move to another state for my dad’s job. I was put into just a regular school and I was so far ahead that I literally had to do absolutely nothing for the next 3 years of school and still made 4.0’s.

However, once I got to the end of high school and into college where I actually had to apply myself, it seemed impossible to make myself do so after this period of doing jack shit. I have moments where the switch just seems to flip and I get super motivated and get tons of things done, but I can’t stay that way for long.

Any suggestions on how to flip the switch on this permanently? I miss being the highly motivated individual I once was and other than the obvious “just fucking do it”, I’m hoping to hear something helpful from others who have broken out of a rut like this.
FOAM ROLL.

I was going to totally make a thread like this but…

Join the army and try to complete one course while being a procrastinator, then again it’ll probably take you many years to join the army…

You mean you can’t live on love??

My wife bought me this book several years ago to help me with my procrastination issues. I still haven’t gotten around to reading it.
