Preformance Enhancers and Cheating

This is a little rant of mine that has been building for years. But first I would like to state that I do not take steriods or any other controlled substance.

Now I am sick and tired of people the media especaily calling people who use preformance enhancing substances cheaters. This is the worst kind of hippocracy. They will publicly embarass ben johnson for training his ass off and then running faster than anyone ever has, then run out and buy their ginko biloba and ginsing and anyother fucking pill that is supposed to make them smarter.

In a episode of the TV show Regenisis they had part of an episode that delt with a friend of one of the main charters taking an experimental new drug so he could take his last stab at the NHL, while all ther other doctors on the show were ragging on him saying how could he do this to his body and take such a risk, one of the guys said " If there was a pill that could make you smarter and a better doctor wouldn’t you take it"

And this is the double standard I hate.
They will kick a college football player off a team if he is caught using steriods so he can train harder, but they won’t fail a kid out of a class if he is caught using rittilen
so he can study harder.

The truth is the line between legal and illegal methods of performance enhancement is completely arbitrary.

The fight against AAS in has been and will continue to be about as effective as the rest of the war on drugs. In other words, the only people they will stop will be those who really don’t much want to do them anyway.

Never, ever try to make sense of, or apply logic to, the selective drugs laws in this country. It’s not about science or ethics, it’s about money and politics.

Period.

Damn right. Alcohol is probably the country’s #1 problem drug, but it’s soooooo cool to drink, and then there’s the pile of money made from it(besides, Prohibition didn’t work out so well).

Women on birth control pills manipulate their hormone profile on a daily basis, and men can take Viagra to get their dicks up when they won’t respond, but steroids are BAD.

Very true. Tv shows glamorize stomach stapling and cosmetic surgery, however, turn right around and frown on someone doing the exact same type of body change using hormones.

How many people would claim a professional athlete was “cheating” if they had liposuction to lose 20lbs which made them a little faster on the court or on the field? Shouldn’t they be suspended and kicked off the team as well?

Star Jones dropped the equivalent weight of an NFL linebacker faster than it takes most people to diet the weight off. Shouldn’t the public be calling her a “cheater”? Why can’t we have her (and the rest of The View) arrested?

Very good point. Funny I just said something similar to this just recently when I was debating with a buddy of mine about this.

The latest headline is that Tom Brady of the Patriots has been linked to Bonds’ trainer. Give me a fucking break.

Another example would be tiger woods. He used to wear contacts I believe, but after surgery his vision is ~ 20/10 (better than what is considered perfect). I’m sure any golfer could benefit from such a procedure. I don’t understand why steroid use is prohibited, but I can see why it wouldn’t be appropriate in athletic competition. Allowing chemical enhancement in sports would basically force anyone involved into participating, despite whether they want to or not, just to keep on par.

No, see I included the entire cast of The View. That makes me “bitch-ist”.

Well said. I agree.

Well put. Its like beauty pageants, how many contestants have had some kind of plastic surgery, enhancement, botox, etc. to help them win? But if you are a athlete, watch the fuck out.

It took a LONG time to get out.

Actually, to keep it on par you would have to measure every competitors hormonal levels, take the average, and then chemically augment or diminish each players levels to that average. Otherwise, it’s JUST NOT FAIR! Of course, there are not many aspects of life that can be considered fair.

Good point on the surgeries. I can image that baseball hitters would love to have enhanced vision. They already wear special contacts which allow them to see the red stitches on the ball better. I’ve read that some pitchers have arm surgery to lengthen and strengthen the tendons in their throwing arms. If that’s not cheating, what is?

The world is full of hipocrates sp?

My personal favorite is ofcourse the steroid debate and the cannabis debate is even better.

I love how a cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking person can sit on their perch and pass judgement of inferiority on people that toke but hate alcohol and cigarettes. “They’re all addicts”, the say. AS users, “they’re all cheaters”, they say. “Hipocrates” I say.

I usually don’t weigh in on these subjects but I will this one time.
I have no problem with people using steroids one bit. I have even contemplated using, but never got around to it. For all I care the American public can take steroids until they are blue in the face.

Here is my point. In most sports there are rules. Some of those rules prohibit the use of alot of performance enhancing drugs. Athletes are full aware of these. Ben Johnson knew it, and the Landis guy knew it, and Bonds knew it. if these guys knew this and still did it would this not be considered cheating.
I think it would be great if all athletes were allowed steroids. Flashback to Phil Hartman and the All Steriod Olympics

if you think it “would be great” then you should support it. you should be bitching about government and their smug purist minions who are putting sports down, not bitching about athletes who should know better. those athletes you mentioned are simply doing what athletes do, what they’ve always : trying to gain advantage. that is their nature.

all these rules and drug testing and appeals to “fairness” are just boil down to typical gov’t bullshit. eminent domain. ironic how in america, where freedom is supposedly our thing, people are swallowing this crap hook line and sinker.

Just look at the definition of the word cheating “To violate rules by deceitful means, or to practice deceit or fraud.” If you’ve never cheated at something in your life to win or achieve something, then I’ll just call shinanigans on you and call you a liar. We’ve all cheated in some way or another. On a test, project, girlfriend, wife, or lied to gain something.

The debate with the use of anabolics is comical at best. If the gov’t says a stimulant like cocaine is illegal but has no problem with caffiene becuase it would be impossible at this point to police it’s use. Where do they actually draw the line. It seems that’s it’s about profit. My favorite exampleis that it’s illegal for anyone to possess certain narcotic medications unless someone has written them a prescription.

The problem is not the drugs, but the flawed system witch classifies and controls them. Bottom line in this world if you want something bad enough you can get it some how some way. The pharmaceutical companies can lobby for anything if they have the financial backing needed. That’s why cigarettes will never be outlawed. Look at what happened with prohibition. Bottom line the gov’t should have no say over what someone chooses to do to their own body.

Bottom line is steroids are illegal to use or distribute. I’m on board if all you guys wanna go to congress and picket. We can even hold up signs that say “ROIDS OR REVOLUTION.”
I do think they should be legal and I do support the right to use steroids, but I think I would rather my government focus on more important things that they have been neglecting. Oh yea and freedom is “our thing” but I thing that if everything was allowed we would have problems.
