Powerlifter's Cancer Recovery

I’m new to your log.
If body weight still fluctuates, try drinking chocolate milk post workout for extra carbs.

Alternative protein shake I sometimes call lunch: in a blender combine 6 - 8 ozs of tomato juice, can of tuna ( in oil for carbs, otherwise water) and hot sauce to taste. It’s a protein virgin mary. No tuna taste.

Thanks, Fairlife chocolate milk was a major part of my diet earlier this year, I don’t know why I got away from it. At first I thought your protein Bloody Mary might be a practical joke, I’m going to give it a try.

Went back to the cancer institute yesterday.
The doctor increased thyroid medication. It’s been a good 6 months since the pulmonary embolism, so he took me off the blood thinner. Today is my first day without injections. Only taking 2 meds now, thyroid and 1 for saliva production.

Eating cardboard is my idea of a joke. The tuna shake I described is a savory alternative to all the sweet recipes. Not kidding about not tasting the tuna.

I really recommend the Costco chocolate milk in the brown plastic coated containers. Regular chocolate eggnog.

Thanks, I enjoy reading other training logs including yours

Looking good in here my friend. Strong work the last few sessions. :+1:t2: :+1:t2: This one stuck out, at least to me.

Glad you are down to only two meds. BP, O2 and PR look very good, at least to me. Keep killing it!

I was excited to lift today. Maybe because starting a program gives training a purpose. The 5/3/1 rep scheme works for me on squats. Before the cancer treatments my squat was heavier than it’s ever been and was getting stronger. I’m starting with a TM of 350.
Squat
225 x 5
265 x 5
300 x 5

Medium band squats
225 x 3reps x 5 sets
Farmers walk
100lb Dmbl take the long way around the gym to the rack

I have always liked 531 for squats as well. Would have loved to be working with that kind of TM.

Common sense is telling me that I need a Deload week for pressing and my ego is calling my common sense all kinds of nasty names.

Solid work the last few sessions. I like 531 a lot for squats too. It sort of works for me on deads but definitely doesn’t work for bench or any upper body lifts. That’s cool you are getting to work with bands. I would love that.

  1. I LOVE the intensity you show on those rows, just freaking getting after it man

  2. you look a lot leaner than I thought you were. Idk, guess I was just looking at the weight, but your built pretty solid, which is an impressive feat at your bodyweight

Thanks, the black is slenderizing.

Solid work man. Looking lean and mean in the video. Nice numbers on those deads.
