Powerlifter's Cancer Recovery

I’ve 3 herniated dics (non caused in the gym). Id say if your daughter is receiving opioid pain relief from her doctor, be very careful that she doesn’t become addicted. I became addicted to 30/500 co codamol and then slow realise morphine. 15 years it took me to get off that shit, of course my dr was more than happy to keep filling out those prescriptions!! (I pay private).

Hopefully your daughter has a speedy recovery.

She needs to follow advice of a specialist doctor. I understand surgery nowadays is rather rare.

My experience: After 6 months of prescription drugs, PT, and losing 2 reflexes, I had disc surgery at 30. I found drugs only mask the problem. I discovered walking A LOT really helps eliminate the pain. Also putting a “wet” heating pad (drug stores sell them) for about 15 minutes on the diagnosed disc area while lying stomach down on a really stiff pillow. Great relaxiation. Hot bathtub soaks too, but copious sweating afterwards. After surgery I eventually resumed weight lifting without restriction.

How is your daughter this day? Well I hope.

I was frustrated after my daughter called last week. I appreciate all the responses and well wishes. Yesterday I took her to a clinic that specializes in the spine. The Dr. said that there is a 90% chance it will heal on its own. We reviewed the CT scan, but he also ordered an MRI and said a cortisone shot might be used. She is definitely uncomfortable and avoids sitting down.
In 2 months, she is supposed to leave for a 35-day training camp that she needs to complete. She hopes she might be recovered enough at that time to go. She really enjoys all the Army training. She sat out her first year of college to do training. 2 months of basic and 6 months of training to become a (68W) Combat Medic.
I found out she was actually taking her PT test when it happened. A couple years ago the Army changed the physical fitness test. Now it includes (a 3rep DL, a medicine ball throw, a sled drag with a kettlebell carry, a plank, a fancy pushup and a 2-mile run). Before it always was just sit-ups, push-ups and a 2-mile run. The only equipment needed was the Earth.
Anyway, I got to spend more time with her than I have in quite a while.

365 x 5 I have been thinking about this set for a couple of days and it didn’t go as I fantasized. On the fifth rep I drifted forward a little and chickened out.

Still great squatting! I hate it when something goes wrong in a set like that though. It happens…

I was going for the Dan John deadlift challenge of 60 reps in 30 minutes. I created an opportunity for improvement. I did all singles till rep 42, then got lazy and did 5 touch and go’s, then back to singles.

Sixty deadlift in 30 minutes. That frightens me. Good job!

Always meant to try that Dan John challenge but also was too scared of the next day DOMs to try it!

Nice work!

Thank you gentlemen. @biker @Friedrich @mechinos I stopped deadlifting from the ground several months ago because of a pain in my hip. My deadlift went backwards. The pain is gone, I had some stiffness on the first 20 reps. I thought this would be a good way to get some volume in. Last summer I hit an all time PR with 355 x 60. My theory is that if you can do 365 x 60 in 30 minutes you can do a 600lb pull.

I am rooting for a 600lb pull! But 365lb x60 in 30 mins sounds disgusting. My back hurts just thinking about it.
