im wondering how top powerlifters run cycles. i assume that it is completly different than bodybuilders? This is how i would think they do…
Run test year round, and add in something like tren for about 8 weeks leading up too a competition? while on the tren, drop the test lower (high tren/low test)?
would that be ideal at all? I do compete, and am on my first test cycle now at 500mg.
Im just thinking about the future and how they do run their gear
From what I understand, they do something similar to that. Cruise on low-moderate doses of T until 8-12 weeks before the comp. Add another compound like Tren at that point. Add an oral like anadrol, dbol or var the last 4 weeks.
Most competitive guys never come off, they just switch to low dose T
Most of my close friends are actually powerlifters, and they all do variations of what you just mentioned. I keep saying they’re crazy for never coming off, but it clearly works for them.
Actually, one of them was running this up to his competition last weekend (I’m not suggesting this, I personally think its too much)
-600mg Test P
-500mg Tren Ace
-800mg Equipoise
-Add in orals such as dbol and halo for the competition.
Like I said, I get cardiac arrhythmia just by looking at that list, but it works great for him.

ok cool dude. and ya i had a feeling they cruise on low T.
What about guys who need to stick to a weight class? Wow I was not thinking they would do huge doses like those above. What about guys who are borderline weight class, do they just hit the juice hard and be fine with bumping up weight classes?
I guess same question for olympic lifters, weight classes and all. I thought they might be more doing whatever MMA guys do.
I use 24 hour weigh ins to cut from ~211 to 198. I lower the T dose early enough it will help reduce water retention right before weigh ins but keep orals the same and use TNE right after weigh ins and pre competition.
If I am getting too heavy and afraid I won’t make weight, I just add in Clen and possibly up my AI if I think it will help. Eventually I know I will make the jump to 220 since I just started using real cycles instead of fucking around w/ oral only cycles, but for now, I like making the cut.
thanks for the real world input. Making the cut like that, but using stuff after weigh in, are you hitting your projected numbers for the meets? Or do you lose a little strength from your training numbers to competition from cutting?
No problems last time, but like I said, I kept the orals in place and threw in TNE after weigh ins. I also went through 3 gallons of pedialyte/gatorade mixture within 8 hours of making weight. You definetly need to push fluids and it has to be better than water.
I also consumed a full bag of nachos, a pizza, and a ton of other shit, but fluids are more important.
Yeah if making weight is an issue then probably drop the EQ and dbol and taper down the test, for instance. Throw in clen and up the AI like McD said.
Also, McD, thanks for sharing that weight cutting protocol, love hearing the real world experiences
awesome real world feedback!! nachos and pizza before squats and deadlifts?!?! Man I owe you a Iron Mind t-shirt for being such a bad ass! haha Id drop a load on the platform after eating and drinking that much and maxing out right after!
I powerlifted in my teens HS/college, and luckily was always right at the 220 mark or even as low as 210 so never had to cut. I think folks wanted me to drop to 198 but that wasnt gonna happen…I never wrestled so I am not used to drastic weight loss protocols…listening to you makes me think if all the MMA, BJJ, and wrestlers I knew back in day who can easily roll with punches with severe weight swings. Fascinating!
McDouche if cutting weight last minute works for you and your winning then you are one on the few exceptions. In my experience most guys who cut weight right before a comp rarely do well. I have yet to ever hear a high level lifter or coach that even recommends it. Most will say you need to be at your target weight window 6 weeks out. I just don’t want the OP getting your 13lbs weight cut which is probably all water weight and not actual mass confused. What I’m saying is you know exactly where your window is and where you need to be.
OP I don’t care what drugs your on, food intake determines weight gain. I have been on 1.5 gr of test, 800mg Mast a week and 200mg of drol daily and kept within 3lbs of my norm. This whole AAS will make unwanted weight gain is crap, yes there are some compounds that make gaining easier but it is by no means an accident. If your training protocol is even halfway descent then it should be a struggle to even maintain body weight. If not I would take a look at my training regimen to find out why Im not burning 4-5 cal a day. I don’t know your weight class but I have to force feed to maintain 230lbs with the last few weeks all out to get around 240 before comp.
Interesting feedback Tatted Popeye. So even on 1.5g Test or 200mg Drol you stay at same bodyweight? And strictly powerlifting training or are you doing GPP/ESD/intervals or any kind of conditioning as well?
I am no roid expert, but 1.5g Test seems like it would put on weight, or 200mg Drol (Anadrol?)…Mast I thought was a cutter so no clue if 800mg Mast would be something others claim shifts bodyweight.
I train strictly powerlifting. Anybody over 200 lbs can have an easy 10lbs of water fluctuation while using if they dont know how to run their ancillaries correctly and watch water retention.
Think about it steroids don’t magically pull calories out of the air you breath and convert them into mass. If your line of thinking were correct then guys who have been using for 20+ years would weigh 800lbs by now.
Good point about the 800lbs. The few guys I do know how continually use on and off, usually bump up 15-30 pounds a cycle, lose it gradually, then want to have size again so hit a cycle again, up and down…same with guys in college football, they loved training and being big while on, while off I do not think they hit the gym as hard nor ate as big or strict with protein…So it seemed to me no one really keeps all of their gains and its a ebb and flow of being bigger and heavier while on, keeping a % of gains until you hit another cycle
HRT forums guys slowly creep weight up over the years, but they are always on, and on GH too.

I’ve only seen this issue in meets with 2 hours weigh ins. For those you must train within 2% of your competition bodyweight. Especially if you use equipment since it need to fit properly on game day. I believe old russian texts came to the same conclusion as well with OL.
One high level PLer that cuts weight, Matt Kroczaleski wrote an awesome article. In my experience, the people that fail with 24 hour weigh ins don’t do it right.
