Power Block/Select Tech vs. DB's

I have a fairly complete dumbbell set right now (10, 20, 25, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 60s). But, I’m considering selling it and buying a Power Block or SelectTech set.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Obviously, the appeal of the adjustable dumbbells are that they require much less space in my garage/gym area. From the little bit that I’ve played with them (and the ones I picked up were some cheap Weider brand I think), they seemed to be a bit noisier and clattered around when you use them.

Anyway, would this be a good move? Is there any real disadvantages?

Thanks for the help.

I’d go with the powerblock…I’ve tried the select tech and thought it awkward but a better investment would be Iron Master Quicklok dumbbells.

I’m using my Nautilus ones and they are phenomenal. Love them.

I’ve had my Powerblocks (Big Blocks to 125 lbs) for over 10 years now. I love them. I was skeptical when I first bought them, but the salesman told me to try them and he would pick them up if I didn’t like them. I even broke the plastic sleeve that the 1/2 pound weights slide into. Powerblocks send me new ones free of charge. Great company and product.

Those look pretty sweet and are a good deal cheaper than the other options I have been looking at. Thanks for the link.

Your welcome. They are my best investment for my home gym.

Ironmaster is a good option:

another vote for power block.

I had an in-home client that purchased them and they worked quite well. Just be sure to use armor-all like it suggests
