I found the pic on a great website that has some very cool info of past time greats in the bodybuilding / strength game. I’ll post another that made me laugh…

With the aid of a strong comb, The Mighty Atom Joseph Greenstein could pull vehicles with his hair, and, as shown above, even use it to bend steel bars! Lol… fuckske but fairplay!

Met that dude at a local farm market when I was a kid. He could bend coins and railroad spikes effortlessly.

In his biography, it tells the story of a particular stunt where he tied his long hair in a knot and attached it to an airplane. As the plane flew, he hung below it, suspended only by his hair. Upon landing, most of his facial skin had been temporarily pulled up over his scalp!

I have a very hard time believing this…

I imagine he brought the coins and railroad spikes with him and didn’t use real ones.

I dunno, there are some supernaturally strong people around. My friends father who is probably about 5ft 6 worked on the railway all his life and was known to carry one end of a metal rail track while 5 men carried the other end! He was seen carrying one railroad sleeper under each arm while walking up the side of a beach cliff to fix his fence, which was made of them… fucker had forearms like calves and calves like quads… you get the picture. Big Neanderthal head on him as well!

There was a member on the Gripboard forum who could bend railroad spikes. It can be done, but takes freakish strength.

I couldn’t even comment on that it was so outlandishly retarded.

I remember the meditation tapes or hypnosis ones at the back of OMNI magazines that I’d read in the late 80s.

It’s so weird how those magazines, if you remember them, still to this day, feel like the future to me even though it’s 2014 or some crazy shit like that right now.

Okay hold up; let’s get serious here for a second.

“I have heard many stories about coin breakers, tennis ball exploders, and railroad spike benders, but I have still not encountered anyone who can do these feats for real or without some type of aid or adjustment.”

“Real railroad spikes are a little less than 6” long, square in shape, and 5/8" in diameter, with a very large head. I have been told that a long time ago some railroad spikes were much longer … if these spikes of years ago were around 10" long, it would be possible to bend them…"

“Everywhere I go to perform, someone comes up to me after the show and starts talking about someone who either bends or breaks coins with his fingers. … I always ask the person telling the story where the coin bender is from and just who he is - and this is where the fun usually begins. The person has either moved away or the person was just someone they met in passing. No matter who tells the story, he can never tell you where you can find this master of finger strength. One gets the feeling that you are searching for the Abominable Snowman or for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.”

“In all seriousness, there were a number of strongmen who used to bend or break coins. These strongmen were from past days, and the coins were not as strong then. Also, these strongmen were not from America. The coins of Britain, France, and other countries were not as strong as American coins of today.”.

These are quotes from John Brookfield. He’s been around the grip nerd community as much as anyone. I feel like if this shit were really being done, he would know about it. If someone in recent years on gripboard has bent a 6" railroad spike, I would surely love to see that. I just can’t find any video or actual evidence that modern coin breaking and actual railroad spike bending has ever been done.

I used to watch Slim the Hammer Man perform when I was a kid as well.

His daughter Trudy was my girlfriend in 5th grade. LOL

I used to visit the grip board but can’t seem to log in anymore.

I’ve rolled up a frying pan…that sounds cooler than it is because a 5 dollar frying pan is made of cheap materials and of course nothg at all like if you could roll up a iron skillet.

The coolest thing was when Kaz would roll them and then unroll them back to flat.
