Later.

Pot is not a CNS depressant. Alcohol is a CNS depressant. Pot is a euphoriant. It has a very different effect than alcohol, which is why people report feeling “high”, not down.

There are three different types of cannabis; for our purposes only two are important to this discussion, sativa and indica. Sativa strains give an “up” high. Indica strains are more soporific or sleep inducing. The third types is the hemp people use for making clothing, paper and other products. [/quote]

But, was William Blake on opium the night he killed his wife?

I’m sorry allegedly shot and killed his wife

William Blake probably partook of opium, but then it was legal as a pain-reliever in his century. Anybody who claimed that angels sat for him while he painted was probably on SOMEthing. But he didn’t kill his wife.

Now, ROBERT Blake…

Robert Blake didn’t kill his wife. He had the perfect alibi. He left his gun in the restaraunt and when he went back in to get it someone shot his wife.

Happens all the time.

I was actually trying a bit of brevity on a thread that had seriously veered, some caught it, some not. BUT, is that not the BEST alibi of all time.
Well, actually Scott Peterson claiming to be fishing 50 miles from his house on thday of his wife’s disappearance was close–until the body washed ashore in that same body of water.

edit: don’t forget this news:

Cannabinoids Promote Neurogenesis In The Brain, Study Says
/////////////////////////////

Baltimore, MD: The administration of synthetic cannabinoids promotes the
proliferation of newborn neurons (nerve cells) in the rat brain and likely
accounts for the drug’s anti-anxiety and mood elevating effects, according
to preclinical trial data published today in The Journal of Clinical
Investigation.

Investigators found that the administration of synthetic cannabinoids
increased neurogenesis in the rat hippocampus and significantly reduced
measures of anxiety and depression-like behavior. Neurogenesis (the birth
of neuronal cells) is thought to enable organisms to adapt to their
environment and influence their learning and memory throughout life.

“Cannabinoids appear to be the only illicit drug whose capacity to produce
increased hippocampal newborn neurons is positively correlated with its
anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects,” authors concluded.

Alcohol consumption has also been associated with a decrease in
neurogenesis in adults.

“These findings add to the growing body of scientific evidence indicating
that cannabis is non-toxic and may hold significant neurological benefits,
including the treatment of certain neurologic diseases such as Alzheimer’s
disease and Parkinson’s disease,” NORML Senior Policy Analyst Paul
Armentano said.

Previous research has shown cannabinoids to be neuroprotective in animals
against brain damage caused by alcohol and/or stroke.

Analyst, at (202) 483-5500. Full text of the study, “Cannabinoids promote
embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis and produce anxiolytic- and
depressant-like effects” is available in the November issue of The Journal
of Clinical Investigation.

Dude, that is a release from NORML. If anything could be considered completely biased, it would be that which comes from NORML.

What amuses me is how passionate some ppl are about keeping marijuana illegal. Especially when tobacco and alcohol are sold in stores!

What do they care that I like to get stoned and watch a movie? I’m sitting at home, not bothering anyone, not hurting anyone but myself, so what’s the problem?

I have noticed a couple of interesting themes on this topic of debate.

  1. People that smoke will admit that it is completely safe, and in the next statement state that the only person harmed is themselves.

That is in direct contradiction to the initial statement. Right up there with-“The following statement is true. The preceding statement is false.”.

  1. Cause of harm from pot can only be direct- that you can’t be harmed or overdose and is therefore safe. But cause of harm from alcohol or other substances can be extended to the actions that are carried out by the user while under the influence. If you can argue the cause and effect of substances that a comparison is being drawn to, then you must also extend the cause to effect of the substance in question. If you can’t take into consideration the stupid things people do under the influence of marijuana, then you can’t introduce the stupid things people do under the influence of a comparison substance. Otherwise, it just isn’t a comparison.

Anybody care to explain those inconsistancies?

Well I never said it was safe. How is inhaling burnt plant products ever going to be safe?

haha. Good point. As a smoker and drinkder myself, I can say that I get sold cancer by a massive corporation and I can get so drunk that I get killed in an accident or start some ridiculous fight that would not have happened if I was sober.

I always get a kick out of this, that the governement sells stuff that either can or will kill you, but pot is illegal. Never understood it myself.

Maybe, perhaps, because you are a moron…

On a side note, you are going to make one hell of an “English major.”
With your phenomenal grammar/punctuation skills, fueled with your philosophy of stupidity, it is going to be a combination magnificent proportion!

Well wasn’t that a productive post!

You got a hide calling him a moron. His posts are roughly 100x more intelligent and interesting than yours.

Ahhh I am not the only lifter that has a love affair with Mary Jane. I just recently had to quit in order to get a good job. I will warn you that if you are a chronic user like I was then you are gonna go through hell when you quit. I couldn’t sleep for $hit the first 3 days without and I began remembering all my dreams again. I can honestly say I was addicted and I know they say you can’t be addicted to Marijuana, BULL $HIT. I wish I could lift weights and smoke Mary Jane everyday of my life.

I am sure I sacrificed some strength and weight gain due to my habit but, I am not training to be an athlete or anything I just lift because I like to. Therefore, I had no real reason to quit until I needed to get a good paying job. I pulled a 3.0 or higher in college while smoking everyday too. Burn one down for me tonight brother and screw all these Haters, Squares, Mark a$$ tricks and scallywags.
