This often happens, but I take a different view of this.
That is fine with me because my kids are living there and benefitting from it.
I am also going to spend what I want on them outside of child support and make sure they have what they need. If I have to pay for them to have nice places and do nice things regardless if they are with me, I am gladly going to do it.
My ego and my feelings are irrelevant as long as my kids are well cared for and provided for.

I grew up in a suburb of a top 5 population city. Took international vacations, was exposed to extracurricular educational programs above and beyond school curriculums, witnessed nearly every culture of the world domestically and on and on.
My wife grew up on a cattle ranch with 18 people in her graduating class. Lots of land to run around on, no neighbors for miles, very shitty internet to this day and even more so when she was growing up, not much money or traveling for her, but she read a lot of books.
We met in college and the dichotomy between our upbringing was pretty pronounced. There are a lot of positives that come from her slower, very objectively simpler background and I enjoy relaxing, hunting, fishing and riding horses on their ranch. Unplugging is amazing.
There are also a lot of drawbacks when itās your whole world. For example, high achieving students with nearly unlimited potential will often never tap it because they think a being a diesal mechanic in a small or even rural town is the pinnacle of life. Maybe it is, for them, but the problem is they donāt actually know because they have such limited exposure to the world and are forming beliefs around extremely limited input.
After college my wife and I moved to Houston, where I had a strong network and career prospects. She chose to study education and could teach anywhere. Watching her adapt to life in an extremely multi-cultural metropolis with literally everything imaginable at her fingertips was an interesting experience. It was almost like watching a a butterfly come out of its cocoon. She found new interests, new passions, new perspectives and broader existence in general.
There are still a lot of things she enjoys from her simpler background, but she can visit them from a place of really knowing they are her preference after exploration.
And thereās nothing wrong with being a diesel mechanic choosing a simple life, but there is if it comes from a limited point of view and ignorance.
