I can see why you would feel that about Austen and Bronte. Iām just not sure what Tolstoy you are referring to as āproblems of rich people.ā Yes, many of his characters are from the upper classes and they do have problems. But I just donāt see how āPride and Prejudiceā is at all the same genre as āWar and Peace.ā āWar and Peaceā is about the rich having actual real problems (like disease and death and starvation and stuff) and the fact that they are rich is secondary. āPride and Prejudiceā is about rich people having rich people problems like not being invited to a ball or having the servants make the wrong type of cake.

I really want this to be good but I canāt help but have my doubts. Proper historical fiction has the characters behave as they would have behaved at the time. Most historical fiction simply places characters with contemporary sensibilities in the past. I believe that this will get the modern Hollywood treatment that requires a bunch of box ticking. I hope it doesnāt.

Oh no, not specifically a fan. She just likes to watch shows together.
Sheās currently all upset I watched some dumb one without her so hopefully I can generate enough excitement with this to make her forget about it.
I guess Iām not really a knowledgeable fan either, you just mentioned the book within hours of me seeing the commercial. After years and years of not thinking much about feudal japan at all.
